I'm not a Lutheran. .

I guess that there are few Lutheran colleges who have major football or basketball programs. (Athletics as a marketing tool.) Except Valparaiso in basketball.

Seriously, you are talking about smaller colleges with student bodies of 1500-5000.

St. Olaf is an excellent college of 4,000 about 30 miles south of teh Twin Cities. It has one of the highest rates of representation in doctoral programs. Nearby is Gustavus Adolphus, another fine university.

Before committing, I strongly recommend visits to each campus DURING the academic year to see if the campus is a good fit for your daughter. With the parents that I counsel, I strongly recommend that the campus visits start as early as the 2nd semester of the SOPHOMORE year. These visits should include a good variety of campuses of all sizes.

^^Hockey and I believe baseball are big at St. Olaf. It's a D III school, no sports scholarships.

Actually, MOST Division III schools - St. Olaf's included - have a wide variety of sports programs - 13 for men, 12 for women. In fact, in terms of the number of sports, they often offer MORE than most of the Division I programs, which have been cutting back for years. The MAJOR difference is that the schools stress participation over athletic success.

St. Olaf has highly rated Cross Country, Track and Golf teams for both men and women. Swimming used to dominate but not as much now. Football is hit or miss. They play in one of the toughest DIII conferences in the country (same with CC/Track and golf though). Basketball tends to go in spurts for St. Olaf as well. They have a whole host of club sports as well as a large rock climbing wall, Frisbee golf course and some really great hills for sledding in the winter . Baseball is also one sport that St. Olaf has a tradition of being a very strong contender. Their women's teams, however, are stronger overall then their men's teams.

My son is the one that graduated from Roanoke. His major was English and marketing for a concentration. He didn't really like the Prof's in the marketing department, but that could have been a personality clash. Salem is a great small town and it's within walking distance of campus, but it's adjacent to Roanoke which is pretty big. Roanoke's lacrosse team is ranked highly for their division. He graduated in 2010. I like their first year program, which emphasizes service learning.

Not sure your statement is accurate. I'm not knocking D3 schools at all but it did make me curious. Below is a break down of the conferences. I hate using Wikipedia but its the only place I could find all the info in a nice chart. I'm on my iPad doing this so I might be slightly off. But it appears most D3 conferences do not field as many sports as the D1's.

For D1 FBS the lowest number was 19 sports and that was 3 out of 12 the rest are more.
Division I (NCAA) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For the D1 FCS conferences only 2 out of 13 had lower then 15 sports. I'm not sure if its even fair to count those given they are 1 sport conferences.
Division I (NCAA) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

45 D3 conferences 10 of them had below 15 sports. And 24 were below 19 sports.

I'm not a Lutheran.

Also, do any have Fashion, Interior Design or Merchandising? Her secondary major would be Math or Accounting and I know that most colleges have those majors.

A little back story. Our daughter is Asian, has good SATS and a 3.75 average. She in liberal politically.

Thanks.
I think we're going a bit astray with the sports info. My guess is the OP probably won't care much about that.

College of Wooster is also on her list! She wanted to attend a Lutheran college but she is open to others. As always, I am open to any four year college that has her (yet to be decided) major and is a good fit.

As far as sports are concerned, her only interests are cheer, soccer and tennis. The only one she has participated in during High School, and not as an extracurricular, is cheer so sports are not big for in terms of college selection.
