One of the best examples of this state's need for better planning/zoning is that stretch of 378 in Lexington where every single business has its own driveway. It's chaotic with people trying to make a left across 2 lanes of traffic.
I completely agree. Lexington County is years behind on zoning and general improvements that just make sense. Even the penny tax would not have been used for such improvements.
With the addition of this Starbucks, there will be five between Lexington and The State House. This includes Starbucks in Lexington, Starbucks in the Lexington Target, Starbucks at I-20, and Starbucks in The Vista. With five along one route, it is interesting how other parts of the city that are growing as well have very few Starbucks.
This is excellent news. NE Cola was in need of a Fresh Market! I would have guessed that this store would have located at Killian's Crossing or within the Village at Sandhills. However, the selected location will work perfectly for me. I guess Fresh Market was targeting the Woodcreek Farms, Greenhill Parish, Wildewood, Spring Valley, and Lake Carolina demographics.
I know that it is too much to hope for another Whole Foods in NE Cola area -- although that would be great. Earth Fare should seize the opportunity and put another store in NE Cola!
I'm very jealous. I wish we could get a Fresh Market/Earthfare/Whole Foods out in the Harbison/Irmo/Chapin area. Seems like the demographics could support a high-end grocer out here.
It is great to see The Fresh Market going forward with a second store in Richland County. I do not know what is plans are for additional stores in the Columbia region. Lexington County and northwestern Richland County could support stores.

They had one out there and it closed; apparently it wasn't well supported.
Interesting stuff. Sounds like the Fresh Market was at Bush River/St Andrew's until the early 90's.
I'd guess that the area out around Harbison/Chapin has grown up quite a bit since then. I think the old Piggly Wiggly at Lake Murray Blvd & 26 would be an ideal location for an upscale grocer.
