I have been single again for several years, and now (better late than never!) I'm considering learning to cook. The closest I have come is my Crock-Pot and microwave oven, plus eating out a lot.

Are there classes in Columbus for the complete novice? My culinary skills consist of boiling pasta for spaghetti and pushing the buttons on my microwave's keypad, so it would have to be from the ground up.

I can't comment on cooking classes per say. But there was once a time when I couldn't cook hamburger meat properly without messing it all up. Now, I cook for my family from scratch every day. It saves a lot of money and it's healthier.

What I did, was look up some recipes with great reviews (that part is important, you need to know that if it tastes bad, you messed something up and it wasn't just a bad recipe) on Allrecipes or Food.com or anywhere really. I like Allrecipes because they have a lot of search options. Anyway, pick some recipes you think sound good and start cooking! If you run into terms you don't understand, google them.

Another good option that has become increasingly popular is cooking classes on YouTube! You can find recipes you like then watch videos of people preparing the dish so you can copy the steps they are taking all while they explain the process to you. Also, always try to use fresh ingredients and spices as that will greatly affect the taste. I also prefer organic but some people say they can't taste a difference.

I second the YouTube comment. Just make sure you look for beginner recipes or you might feel overwhelmed at first

With that said, I've been to a cooking class at Bleu & Fig. It's in a group setting and really fun. You can do as little or as much of the cooking as you like, then try it all afterwards and take home the recipes. Cooking Classes

You might want to check out - Sur la Table at Easton Towne Center. They have all kinds of different cooking classes.
