PC MAKER HP has announced that it is dropping Windows 8 in favour of its predecessor, Windows 7.
Advertising on the HP website declares, "Windows 7 is back.... Due to popular demand" The claim is more than just a marketing statement. HP is now preloading most of its PCs with Windows 7 as standard, with Windows 8 having been relegated to an optional customization.
I don't understand what the big deal is with the Win 8.1 Metro UI. If you don't use it, simply click on the desktop icon; most folks are making a mountain out of a molehill.
I think the major issue here is: "We've always done it that way"
Come on guys, Win 8.1 is not that difficult, and surely not a major learning curve.

It is irrelevant whether it is a major learning curve or not.....people simply do not like it. Microsoft spent a fortune in advertising leading up to Christmas and it failed......windows 8 still didn't sell. In fact, Windows 7's adoption rate outpaced 8.
MS will eventually realize that they need to give the consumers what they want, not what MS thinks they need.
And there you have the problem. Customers don't know what they want. They only think they know what they want. Few people are able to see what the customer really wants. It's what made Steve Jobs what he is/was.

Yes but Jobs realised that what mattered most was the end user experience. MS seem to have ignored this in an attempt to foist windows phones and tablets on the public.

I bought a laptop because of urgent need two days ago and would like to slap the designers of windows 8 what complete and utter garbage.
I don't give a **** about whats trending where these metro blocks stare at me in the screen I don't care about the latest in news, sports, or what the weather is currently around the world if I did I'd web search it.
I bought this computer to work on namely recording guitar and have new recording to programs to install and LEARN I don't need the set back of learning windows 8 and windows 8 is completely unfriendly for working. Maybe its good for someone who just follows face book or socializes but for real use it SUCKS.
The MS idiots tried to bury the system properties something SOME of us need to tweak and customize. I don't need a computer that tries to up sale me stuff by blasting the latest deals out there on ebay or amazon and I don't give a crap that some Kardashian is having the latest fashion set back.
I am currently having my new pc "upgraded" to classic shell and maybe even go and have 7 installed instead plus having the free trial CRAP removed that comes with a new pc.
And touchscreen is NOT better on a normal pc try having a guitar in your lap or laying in bed and having to reach over and move your hand on a screen a mouse is much friendlier if I wanted smart phone bs I'd buy a smart phone.

Nonsense. Recent research shows that Microsoft is doing just fine in User Experience. Perhaps better than Apple.
