I wouldn't get either. Those are just too old to pay that much money for them. YMMV, of course.

Not helpful lol! Pretend this is your only option.

Or if you just can't take it, what would you buy if you only had $400, that would do what I need, which I mentioned in the OP?

LOL! Good point, and apparently quite true.

That applies to more than the Apple world. If you go to the ThinkPad world, you are just as pleased with a little more money in your pocket.

Chromebooks don't limit your web browser almost at all. What they limit is your ability to use anything that doesn't run in a browser. So no Minesweeper or Solitaire, unless you can find them on the web and run them in the browser.

The only things I've found that don't run on my Chromebook browser are video sites that require Microsoft Silverlight. That plug-in is not available on the Chromebook, but not every video site uses it. Netflix works just fine, for instance. MLB.TV uses Silverlight and does not work on the Chromebook.

I might be the longest-tenured Mac user in this thread, but I also use Windows and a Chromebook. Since price is very important to you, you might be a good candidate for a Chromebook. I paid $159 for a refurbished Acer C720 at Amazon. They're currently $199. It's a nice little machine.

ChromeBook most certainly limits what you can do on the Internet. I think that's where the concern may be.

Yes, I think someone said I couldn't use Skype, for instance. I just don't want any limits on what I can do. I think I'd rather wait and save more money to get something without limits like that.

If I only had $400. I would by a brand new PC, not an old Apple. Have you looked at Mac Mini's? I think they're cheaper and has most of the features of larger computers. Use it with a monitor you may already have to save some money.

I don't use my Macbook Pro on a daily basis, so I'm hoping mine lasts a very long time! I do use it, about once a week maybe. Mostly for when I have to go to our remote offices. At home, I still use my Dell desktop computer quite a bit.
