So how do you like the imac? I just got one and the screen actually sits up a bit too high and makes my neck hurt (yes my chair is up all the way). My eyes water terribly from the screen brightness - I downloaded Shades freeware and it helped some but eyes still water like crazy

No brightness and contrast adjustments on the monitor?

Of course. Wouldn't want to clutter it up with anything useful like buttons or hard drive activity LEDs.

There is a brightness control but it doesn't take it down a whole lot. At least with the shades freeware - you can take it from bright white (lowest control setting on the iMac) to black so you can find a happy medium. It isn't really controlling the brightness as much as it puts a shade over it. I have wanted an iMac forever but found this a bit astounding that they would have something so impossibly bright -- I've had it for a week now and am going to give it one more week before I consider returning it. Perhaps the Macbook won't have the same issue but for the price -- instead of a 20-24" monitor, the 13-15" monitor on the macbook will be the affordable price. I can't decide what to do but I can't deal with these burning eyes and headaches when I close my eyes at night.

Sounds like a refresh rate problem that is confusing your eyes/optic nerve.
Can you make changes in the refresh rate?
