Have had Vista on a desktop HP PC since I bought it new 3 years ago. HATE IT! (Also have XP Pro on a 5 year old laptop and love it.....)
So to those of you who have Windows 7, are you seeing obvious improvements or is 7 just a shinier, albiet maybe a little faster Vista? An is it worth it to upgrade my desktop with Vista to 7?

Reason: clarifying point
I just bought a laptop with Win7. I've not had Vista on any computers, but I've worked with it on client PC's and my wife's laptop.
From what I've seen Win7 is a definite improvement over Vista, but I have to wonder if an upgrade will clear out all the bugaboos that haunt Vista or if it would require a clean install.
I bought a windows 7 laptop and I love windows 7. people who complained about vista usually had garbage specs in terms of memory n what not, and their set up couldn't handle vista since it was kind of a memory hog
either way, windows 7 is still a huge improvement on vista and i recommend it.
i am about to upgrade my other computer from vista to win7 thanks to free software from the msdnaa
I definitely prefer Win7 over Vista but for the average person who has a Vista system that's running fine, I don't know if I'd recommend the hassle of upgrading. For best results, I always recommend backing up data, wiping out the old OS, and installing the new one clean. However, I definitely recommend that when the day comes that a reload is needed anyway, go to Win7 then.
If your computer runs Vista well, it will run Windows 7 better. It is not a huge step up - but Windows 7 has many nice new features such as taskbar peek that are immediately useful. Integrated search is better, and the new "libraries" are great for managing media files.
I finally bought a new computer this week.. and it came with Windows 7 .. I LOVE IT!
had both vista and XP-pro and vista I hated but the xp was great for my older games .. only real problem is with some of the older games like Myst and such they wont load on the Win7 platform so .. time to buy new games .. good excuse dont ya think?

Someone mentioned requiring the virtualization CPU in order to take advantage of Virtual PC and XP Mode, but I've not looked into it since the lappy I bought had the CPU.
I had a laptop with Windows XP, and I got a new laptop with Windows 7 in late November of last year. I've never used Vista, but I know many people who have complained about it for a variety of reason. Overall, I'm very happy with Windows 7.
Also, if you bought your Vista computer on or after a certain date, I think June of 2009, the computer may be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7, you'll have to check the manufacturer.
Win7=what Vista should have been. I pitched Vista off my machine (long story) and now have 7------------I will never go back.
