Need to get rid of Sprint after 15yrs.. I Would love to hear your experience with these phones in the CT area or beyond. I need something good enough for texts, emails, music, video, internet, camera and flashplayer. To make the posts easy to read lets do it like this:

* What I have & with who: Blackberry with Sprint
* What I like about it: Easy to use, Keyboard, price, credits and rebates often, not many dead zones or dropped calls. Many Sprint Locations
* What I dont like about it: The phones breaks every 9-13 mths. Sprint cancelled their weather alerts with WeatherChannel, Internet not fast enough, 2 yr contract ends next yr.
* Extra thoughts:

Just Copy and paste this:

My husband used to have a Blackberry with Sprint. He was fine with it, but I wanted a phone that I could get my emails on, but wasn't willing to pay Sprint's data prices along with his.

We both switched to Virgin Mobile. It's soooo much less expensive. Unlimited data and 1200 minutes per month of talk-time = $40/month. Unlimited data and 300 minutes per month of talk-time = $25/month.

The thing is that you have to BUY your phone. My phone (so that I could get emails) was DIRT CHEAP. It's the Kyocera Loft. We were going to buy it from Virgin Mobile but found it at Target. In their clearance section. Get this... for $17!

Now, my husband needed something fancier, since he was coming from a BlackBerry.

He got the Android through Virgin Mobile. It's the LG Optimus V, I believe. It's $200. Still way cheaper than an iPhone. And he LOVES it! He streams Pandora music on it, sends emails, texts like a madman, blah blah blah. He likes it MUCH better than his BlackBerry, that's for sure.

Love my iPhone. I'm a user experience freak. The interface, usability and design is second to none.

Android phones are very respectable though and I would not hesitate in recommending the X, Incredible, etc. Great features, and the Android OS is flexible and powerful.

I would not recommend the Windows or Blackberry phones (and especially not Palm). IMO they aren't nearly at the level of iPhone and the better Android phones.

Verizon is marginally better than AT&T in some spots in CT. In cities and major population centers they are about the same.

iPhone 4 16GB is $199 on both AT&T and Verizon, and 3GS is $50 on AT&T.

AT&T even has a refurb 3GS for $19.

Seriously? I had no idea that they'd dropped like a rock.

The newest iPhone has been $199 for years actually. AT&T just introduced the cheaper 3GS option when Verizon got on board earlier this year.

It shows you how out of the loop I've been. Before I got the Kyocera Loft so that I could access my emails, my previous phone had been rotary dial. (I'm only slightly kidding -- it was almost antique.)

PS. The nicest thing about Virgin Mobile is that there's no contract. Just month to month. So, if you don't like it -- the phone or the service -- you just stop... and eBay the phone.

I'm also trying to avoid the touchscreen because a technician once told me the more sophisticated it is, the more likely it will break and the more expensive it is to fix. but seems like the trend is towards the touchscreen now.

They are built to withstand heavy use. As long as you don't drop it on concrete or the toilet, it should last for years. All these phones have a reasonable warranty for defects. iPhones are known to be extremely reliable when not abused.

I had an original iPhone for almost 4 years and it was dropped repeatedly, fell in the toilet, used and abused and only had minor issues when I got rid of it. And even with a few things not quite functioning right, I still got $80 for it on eBay.

Touchscreen is the definite trend forward in phones.
