The OP is working in Hartford and considering New Haven as a place to live. Greenwich is no where near either Hartford or New Haven. I would therefore not consider it. Jay

Greenwich is considered SE CT (Lower Fairfield County). There is not much to do there. There is a downtown area, Greenwich Avenue, but those are all high end shops. It is a very wealthy town. It is way too far from the New Haven area. Middletown would be a nice place to live, as suggested above. Its affordable, has the CT river right there, and you have access to other locations using (Interstate 91).

In New Haven, Downtown, Wooster Square, East Rock and Westville have the best access to Hartford, via I-91 (Westville, via the parkway). These are also by far the best urban neighborhoods in Connecticut. Hartford has some good places but probably isn't what you are looking for if you want a walkable, urban place to live with a lot of diversity. Stamford has good parts too but is too far from Hartford.
