Anyone know of a place that has good quality cabinets for an affordable price?

I have some of these cabinets. They were relatively inexpensive and I love them. Got dovetail joints and plywood sides as upgrades on mine. Also 36" uppers (which makes a big difference IMO). Got pulls from Lowes.

Nice, thanks. You ordered directly from that site?

I'm helping a friend redo his 1940 cape in Fairfield. His kitchen needs updating - we're going to do the demolition and he's going to hire someone to do it. It's a 10x10 kitchen.

He got a quote from Home Depot of 4k - I thought that was a little high given their quality...

I would check out express kitchens- iirc there is one on the post road in milford/ orange. Make sure you look around the whole howroom- there were a couple of really cheap but good looking cabinets. We bought the prebuilts off the shelf at depot. If we had more time, and timed a sale right, lowes had a few pretty/ inexpensive special order cabinets. Btw-is 4k with intstall?

Ikea makes some of the best good quality affordable cabinets. Only problem is that they don't have alot of custom size.

4k is without install. I'll check out express and see what's there. My buddy is a first time homeowner and knows next to nothing about renovations LOL. Thanks

When we redid our kitchen in West Hartford, I did a ton of shopping around. Everyone was soooo expensive, even (or mostly) the big box stores. I went with Express Kitchens (or Kitchen Express, whatever they're called). I designed a cherry kitchen, dovetail, with TWO pantries, that was far less than Home Depot.

The kitchen in my new house is even nicer but I really miss my old kitchen. God, I loved that kitchen (even though I'm a lousy cook)!

Nice kitchen. Is that Corian or Granite?

It's silestone. I don't like "blotchy" (blotches of color) so I wanted something that was like granite but was a more solid color. The one that I got was "Desert Sand" or something like that (it definitely had the word "Sand" in the name) and it looked like a beach -- it looked like a counter made of grains of sand. I loved that counter.

The silestone was FABULOUS! It's a hard stone like granite, and you can take a hot pot off the stove or out of the oven and just put it right on the counter. You can also chop stuff with sharp knives right on the counter.

I don't remember how the price compared to granite or silestone. I just know that I gasped at the $4K price... and then plowed ahead and did it. I figured that once I was dropping all that money into a kitchen, I wasn't about to balk at $4K and put in laminate.

PS. Y'know what price killed me? The cost of the drawer pulls. Granted, we needed a lot of them and I really wanted brushed nickel, but WOW! I was shocked. We got those at Home Depot.

We used New England Kitchen and Bath in Monroe - Fairfield County Kitchen Design Bath Remodeling Connecticut Home Improvement Project CT Cabinetry Countertops. I forget the guys name since we did this over 3 yrs ago, but they were so helpful with laying out a bunch of different options and customizing what we wanted. Lots of drawings and revisions, and the price was pretty good. Not as cheap as home depot, but the quality was better.

For granite - I've talked about this place about a hundred times on this board. Marble.com - right near the GWB in NJ. Great pricing (was cheaper that the corian and the silestone we had quoted locally), terrific installers, and you pick/choose your own slab in their yard.

DandJ - the drawer pulls ARE insane! We just bought a few to replace the one's that came with our new coffee and side tables, and happened to look at the kitchen areas in Home Depot. They are so expensive, and you need so damn many of em!
