Where the heck school is this that has made a federal case out of a name? When we lived in West Hartford, the forms has a space for a name and a nickname. I have two children, and one decides to submit all his homework, tests, projects, etc. using his nickname. There was never a confusion in grading or transcripts or any official paperwork. He is addressed in class by his nickname. He's now a sophomore in HS and still uses his nickname in his homework, tests, projects...no big deal, and now we're down south.

Much ado about nothing on the school's part, IMO.

You have about 20 or 30 times more patience than I do. If my local school district had tried to play a ridiculous game like that with a child of mine, they'd have gotten a letter that would have scorched their hands...and I'd have taken my child out of their district. (I would also have written to every newspaper in the county, making them look precisely as idiotic as they are. THEN they could apologize if they wanted to...but they wouldn't change my mind about anything).
Yes- finally fixed in room, and paperwork is official. The searing email to the superintendent seems to have worked. Although the principle tried to "instruct" me not to put things in writing anymore. HA- I politely but firmly told him, 'No, I will continue to put things in writing, and will write down anything you say.'

All I care about is it is fixed!!! She likes her teacher, likes school, and now doesn't feel intimidated about the "rules for names"

Glad to hear it. What a ridiculous situation.

I know someone who's child's name is Jaden (pronounce jay-den) His kindergarten teach refused to pronounce it the correct way, and insisted it is pronounced "jah-den" because she claims that is the correct way to pronounce it because there is no y after the a. she continued even after the child corrected her, and even after the mother told the teacher too.

What the heck is wrong with teachers?

Sorry that happened- I now feel like not enough people are championing children's rights. Of course Jaden is (jay den)

You should have seen the teacher try to say she was unaware this would be an issue for parents/kids- in her 12 yrs blah blah - her eyes were rolling at me , when I told her kids at 5 are concrete rational and follow rules till the rules are removed , she was surprised I knew that term. She put the rule out there, she did not remove the rule, she created the stress. She said there is now socialization issues with fixing how friends address eachother- yes a socialization issue she created. She tried to say she only heard about it a few days before - but I had started emailing in August & had sent the proof to the superintendent, the principle tried telling me you will never put anything in writing ever again. I told him 'No, I will be writing and saving communications'

Umm in general, nothing.

There are bad teachers just like there are bad computer programmers, builders, airline pilots, plumbers and politicians.

I'm sorry your child had that experience, however, it is regrettable that you choose to indict all teachers because of it.
