Their food is atrocious and expensive. I don't know how they stay in business. I go around the corner to Stowe's. Much better.

I’m trying to figure out what problem the owners of Jimmies have with this project. It seems a good use for a long vacant building and would draw customers to the area and even to Jimmies itself. Anybody know if it’s more than just competition?

I still like going there, but I do think this plan is acceptable. I agree with them not wanting an actual brewing site there.

Stowes is nice, but I would hardly call Jimmies expensive. The food is decent, not as good as 25 years ago, but decent. Plus, Jimmies has tables overlooking the water, difficult to find at the price point they offer.

I always liked Captains Catch, now closed in Milford, more than Stowes, of self serve seafood spots.

I’ve heard from people that have worked at Jimmie’s in the past that it’s… questionable in the kitchen. I would never go. Too many other better options in the area.

Omg SAME. Former employees have things to say, for sure. Nice piece of real estate they have there though.

I agree downtown New Haven has good food traffic at night. Of course there is the Yale factor, but while Yale has been there forever, in recent decades and years the popularity of food places, bars, tours, events, performances have increased. This is also true in the summer which used to be very quiet. With college students gone in late May the summer traffic is still busier than ever.
Soon there will be even more foot traffic for the evenings: Downtown has the new bio-tech building on College St which will be open soon; and 100s of new apartment units are going up in at least 4 separate downtown projects between Ninth Square and Orange St near Audubon St. Also, the Coliseum site has a planned bio-tech building that site is being prepped for construction, too. Away from downtown, additional workers will be hired for the Neuroscience Center currently being built by St. Raphaels.
