Haha..I was just going to write that the last stretch of weather we have had is as nice a weather as you can ever get. The a/c has not kicked on in weeks, but we are too warm for the heat to start. The days are crisp, humidity free... Sure we need a little rain but we are nowhere near a drought. I say enjoy this weather. We will get our winter and late fall storms soon enough. For now , I am just amazed at the tranquility and comfort of this early fall. Next week will be warm and that sux, but after the next cold snap the sun will say buh bye till next spring.

Yup... get your lawn stuff done now. Temps are prime for grass seeds and there's no heavy rains to wash them away. What an amazing stretch of Fall weather. Wow! Kinda getting the eerie feeling about it. Quiet now then BOOM. I'm already seeing the pattern starting to juice up but its favoring the Rockies and plains and upper Midwest.

Does this scene look familiar guys? Remember October 2011 in CT? Same thing just happened in WY. 2nd biggest September snowstorm with green leaves.. And another snowstorm maybe next week for them OR southern Canada.

This pattern could shift and hit us in 2 months.

2 months? I think the transition to colder obviously depends how fast the snow cover accumulates upstream. Also, computer models are very fickle this time of year between seasonal transitions. The NAO, AO, and PNA are also less reliable signals in the Fall as well. I will agree that the first half of October looks to have above average temperatures for now.

Snow and broad-leafed trees don't mix. It's amazing how Mother Nature understands that, and generally takes care of us!

So what do strong High pressures do in the Fall time? High pressures = no clouds most of the time.

Allows for the sun during the day to warm things up but then no clouds after sun goes down allows heat to escape the surface and cool down. (heat rises)

I call this Solar Warming and Radiational cooling. The entire area pretty much had a 10-15 degree drop in a couple hours after sundown.

Here's a tweet from Upton:
"Westhampton Beach working its radiational cooling magic... dropped from 67 to 53 in two hours!"

So here's how Danbury and Windsor Locks OBS looked. Pretty much 70s to 50s in 3-4hrs.

Indian Summer? There has to be a frost first.

Have people really turned on their heat or fired up their stoves? The solar heating I get during the day is more than enough to keep the house above 65, and I have a lot of trees around my house. I try not to turn my furnace on until Columbus day, and it looks like that will be the case this year.

Yup.. It's amazing I got close to "needing" the heat but now it looks like I'm heading to the normal time to turn it on. (after mid October).

No rain for another week either!

Maybe local 80s on Wednesday! Otherwise warm 70s this week.

40s again.. That's 14 times this month!

Hit 46.5° here. Cold surface and a warm layer on top of us = fog in some areas.
