BDR current 1.5 below normal, BDL 1.9 below, Central Park 1.7 below. As all 3 stations are above 60 today, so even with it sharply colder later, those numbers will go down. But Thursday through Saturday they will all go back up. So whether we pass Wavehunter's so-called 1.5 below "benchmark" I think will depend on a combination of how soon it gets cold today and how warm it gets Sunday (oh wait, Sunday is December 1, never mind......I think we get there!)

After today's 60's it will turn colder....but it won't last;

By the middle of next forecast week highs will be back in the low/mid 40's F in the Tri-State area. In fact, in terms of wintery weather (snow/temps below 40 F)....there is none right into the first few days into December for people from Boston southward.

For now, winter cold/snow looks to stay up in the Upper Midwest/northern Plains (yes 14 F high in Minot!).....and I'm fine with that. Let winter stay away from the East Coast..

Of course for me it won't matter after December 15 th....I'll be deep in Florida for Christmas. So I hope those 70's and 80's stay right where they are

I just checked it a few hrs ago myself....it will be quite close. Once they average in todays 60's F it should drop some, then it might go back up on Fri, Sat. So it will be quite close to the mark.

FYI NOAA/NWS, is the one who uses +/- 1.5 as the threshold of above/below normal. I think they do this because very few months (maybe one every ten years - lol) comes in at 0.0 F.

60's today to 20's and teens tomorrow night. Another impressive cold shot coming in for this time of the year.

  • Thanksgiving Day Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
  • Thursday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
  • Friday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 18

THANKSGIVING DAY...WHILE SKIES WILL BE PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY... STRONG COLD ADVECTION WILL OCCUR AS 850 MB TEMPS DROP TO BETWEEN -12 AND -14C. THIS WILL RESULT IN UNSEASONABLY COLD WEATHER FOR LATE NOVEMBER. HIGHS SHOULD ONLY REACH THE UPPER 20S ACROSS THE INTERIOR HIGH TERRAIN...TO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 30S ELSEWHERE. EXCELLENT MIXING SHOULD SUPPORT WEST TO NORTHWEST WIND GUSTS OF 35 TO 45 MPH. A FEW LOCATIONS MAY REACH WIND ADVISORY CRITERIA DURING THE MORNING HOURS...SO LATER SHIFTS WILL HAVE TO CONSIDER ADDITIONAL WIND HEADLINES. REGARDLESS...WIND CHILL VALUES WILL BE IN THE TEENS...TO LOWER 20S WHICH WILL BE A RUDE AWAKENING AFTER THE VERY MILD WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON.

THANKSGIVING NIGHT...LARGE CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE WILL BEGIN TO BUILD IN FROM THE WEST. THIS WILL ALLOW WINDS TO DIMINISH AND RESULT IN A GOOD NIGHT OF RADIATIONAL COOLING. IT WILL BE QUITE COLD WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS WELL DOWN INTO THE TEENS TO THE LOWER 20S.

FRIDAY...A MIXTURE OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE ARE ON TAP BUT WITH WELL BELOW NORMAL TEMPS. LARGE CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE WILL RESULT IN 850 MB TEMPS BETWEEN -14C AND -16C! THIS SHOULD ONLY ALLOW AFTERNOON HIGHS TO RECOVER TO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 20S ACROSS THE INTERIOR HIGH TERRAIN...WITH 30 TO 35 IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. IT WON/T FEEL QUITE AS COLD AS THANKSGIVING DAY THOUGH...AS WINDS WILL BE MUCH LIGHTER. NONETHELESS...CERTAINLY ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE SHOT OF VERY COLD AIR FOR THE END OF NOVEMBER.

I don't know if your were hoping for/not for 60's F.....but I just checked the NWS 9:00 AM obs....seems there are few stations that DID NOT see 60's lol:

Who knows if the few stations below 60 F will see it later today. It's only 9:00 Am
