Contrary to popular belief, most years, even in the 1800s, have at least one 50+ degree day in each of the winter months. It's not something that came with "global warming" or whatever......even up in northern New England and the Adirondacks, just replace the 50+ I said with 40+

I briefly looked at the NWS website and saw an inch or two forecast for Saturday...no big deal. Now a coworker is telling me they heard 3-6"?

There is some point where the storm is going to intensify and produce more snow. This point is east of recent storms, so the line may cut across CT.

If you look at AccuWeather for example, it shows the 3-6 in eastern CT and eastern LI, and the 1-3 west of it, so that may be why. This could actually be a sizeable storm for the Boston area.

4) new snow layer all nice and clean
Cool post! I noticed we get a lot of blue sky days after a snowfall. I thought would be different near the coast.

I'm hearing the fatigue in many folks while many of them aren't phased by this winter/pattern. Lets face it, we all been there done that and know we'll be planting flowers in a few weeks.

Looking ahead... This is what the latest GFS says for Danbury. 0.45" liquid of all snow. 3-5" possible tomorrow afternoon and evening..

Tuesday morning only 0.10 but models been going back and forth with that one between rain/snow and 1-3" snow and 3-6" snow. So we'll have to wait.

Look at the temps from 19th to 24th. All above freezing. (can you sense the pattern change?)

After that don't bother believing yet but it says a cold and snowy period again. (long range)

If the storm bombs out earlier than expected, these totals would go up an inch or two for CT.

Saturday Snow:

AccuWeather:

Weather Channel:

NWS New York:

NWS Boston:

I found a more bullish forecast...

WTNH just said 5-9" for eastern CT, 3-6" western CT. I-91 looks to be the dividing line.

Flooding potential coming up:

The map below shows the area where flooding may occur when the warmup occurs. The operational models are showing warm air and high dew points coming north with about 0.50" to 1.00" of rain. The snow pack has 1" to 3" of liquid trapped within it. So a rapid meltdown of the snow with rain may result in flooding

Yeah, that rain threat needs to be watched. light rain is fine but heavy rain is not. Water has no where to go. My driveway is a sheet of ice from the melt and refreezes. City's should think about finding the sewer drains and clearing them next few days

NWS Snow Total Forecasts pieced together from all offices for Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning

I guess we'll post in here. Let that other thread get locked up

Right now storm is over Kentucky and will exit Virginia and come up the coast.

Here's WPC Storm Track forecast. http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/wwd/winter_wx.shtml#lows

Notice the 990mb off RI coast to 972mb over Nova Scotia. Strengthen too late for us here.

I like this link for current surface map. http://www.intellicast.com/National/Surface/Mixed.aspx
