NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
1057 AM EST TUE DEC 23 2014

FOR NOW GOING WITH CHANCE POPS SUNDAY NIGHT AND SLIGHT CHANCE POPS MONDAY TO REFLECT POTENTIAL WAVES OF LOW PRESSURE PASSING TO THE SOUTH WITH MAINLY SNOW EXPECTED ACROSS N ZONES AND RAIN CHANGING TO SNOW ACROSS S ZONES.

STILL QUITE A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY ON EXACT TIMING/STRENGTH/TRACK AND NUMBER OF THESE WAVES.

FOR NOW BEST TO CHARACTERIZE WEATHER FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK AS POTENTIALLY UNSETTLED WITH A BETTER CHANCE FOR SNOW THAN RAIN AT MOST LOCATIONS...IF ANY THING FALLS AT ALL. GIVEN LARGE DEGREE OF UNCERTAINTY...IT IS TO EARLY TO SPECULATE ON WHAT...IF ANY IMPACT THERE WILL BE FROM THESE POTENTIALLY MULTIPLE COASTAL LOWS PASSING TO THE South
Well at least if anything does get close enough it should be slow through that low series.

And cold will lock in at least next week.

6 days nonstop of total overcast, with not even a PEEP of sunlight. I love it!

I believe State College or Pittsburgh is on a 16 day streak. I don't mind clouds except it keeps nights warmer. Speaking of warm lows... Check out Caribou Maine past couple weeks!

Winds could gust to 50mph above 900 feet tomorrow so heads up. Hopefully no power outages.

4 dead from Tornadoes down south today. That energy comes up tomm evening.
Maybe thunder, maybe downpours, maybe winds, maybe record warm. Merry Christmas

Then move to central/western NY State (i.e. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse) or Pittsburgh or Cleveland then.....in the winter months I think they average less than 5 days of clear skies a MONTH.

I went to school in upstate NY for a year, and I believe Binghamton at the time was the least sunny city in the US, or at least the lower 48. (I actually went to school in Rochester, but the guys from the Binghamton area would sarcastically brag about it being even less sunny in their area...)

I'll try to keep the spirits bright..

Canadian 12z just out again shows a big snowstorm. (couple runs in a row now. Looks like low pressures riding the front as the front sags south rain changes to snow and keeps snowing as multiple waves keep coming up.

In honor of festive colors here is the Snow total through January 3rd. (remember the snow ratios are 10:1 with these maps so think lower off the bat)

Canadian shows 5-12" across the state.

Euro12z not impressed at all. Flurries/Drizzle in NJ and Long Island. Virtually no precip for the frozen stuff only the rains in Mid Atlantic.

However overnight Euro ENS has a big snowstorm as well.
