I'm curious to see how they will handle it and where the entrance will be, for cars. The off ramps over there are already pretty wide, but they do back up with rush hour, etc. I think it's going to make a lot of residents that live over that way pretty pissed off, when they are trying to get home from work, too.

It will not be good. Traffic is already heavy there. Busy Saturdays, holidays.....watch out.

Is there word for "it's going to suck to the 10th power"?

I am sort of a musical traveling saleswoman or a troubadour of sorts. I go down to Norwalk from Trumbull 2X a week. The ride through Fairfield/Westport to Norwalk and back is horrendous right now almost all hours of the day. I already posted in another thread that the commute through Westport/Fairfield is the 7th worst commute in the nation.

Highways to Hell
#7, Connecticut Turnpike (1-95 Northbound), Bridgeport Worst corridor: Filed Point Rd. through Mill Plain Rd./Exit 21 Length of worst corridor: 22.2 miles Rush hour travel time tax on worst corridor: 44 minutes Longest rush hour travel time on worst corridor 104% Time per mile during longest rush hour travel period 1.97 minutes

I will let you know what happens when that mall opens.

PS: for people who don't know the logistics Exit 15 (new Mall) and Exit 16 of I-95 are very close..about a mile apart. Exit 17 is Westport. The new mall is going to be very close to the border of Westport which will back up the Norwalk to Fairfield/Bridgeport corridor even more.

I'm still of the opinion that this is great, in terms of economic development for Norwalk and the area, but terrible in terms of forethought in this rough, spotty retail landscape, and the era of the "mall concept" being so outdated.

I was looking to see in the plans for this development if the stores were going to be more "downtown old fashioned street-oriented," like a small downtown atmosphere, where shoppers enter in directly into the stores from outside. But, it appears like this mall is a typical enclosed mall--is that correct?? If so, do these developers think it's 1995 again?

I realize it will be "higher end" but there's already so much competition for that demographic in Fairfield County. I would assume this will be the start of the nail in the coffin for Stamford Town Center and the mall north of Bridgeport on the Merritt...

I've mentioned this before, but I think it is going to be similar to the Westfield Century City. While this mall has some open air areas (it IS SoCal!,) you cannot enter the mall (OR restaurants) from outside, on the street. You have to park in the garage or enter a main mall entrance. So, take out the top floor being open to the sky....and I'm pretty sure this is what the Norwalk Mall will be like:

The mall you are referring to is the Trumbull Mall. There is a proposal in the zoning for the new owners of the Trumbull Mall to put in hundreds of apartments on the Mall site and also new restaurants (like the restaurants at the Milford Mall). I think both the apartments and more restaurants are a good thing.

Sacred Heart University in Fairfield is a few blocks away from the mall. SHU is growing in leaps and bounds and there are not enough apartments for the all of the students. The buses go back and forth from the mall to SHU pretty frequently. I bet the mall is looking to rent to the students. I think it would bring a vitality to the Trumbull Mall that is needed.

I am going to the planning and zoning meeting when this will be discussed. I will let you know how it turns out.

BTW, the mall is in Trumbull is not high end. The only high end store is Lord & Taylor and I don't think the new mall in Norwalk will have one of those. The Norwalk & Trumbull Malls will have two different clienteles so hopefully they won't "hurt" one another.

Sorry, I changed the sentence.

It now reads....... "There is a proposal in the zoning for the new owners of the Trumbull Mall to put in hundreds of apartments on the Mall site and also new restaurants (like the restaurants at the Milford Mall)".
