Given where we were 2010 (20 minutes faster New Haven-GCT), it's sad realizing by 2035, we hope to be back to 2010 times.

And 6 hours Boston-DC stinks. It is a pithy goal.

We need high speed Metro North trains that travel 150-170 mph stop only in New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, NYC only for express and semi express New Haven, West Haven, Milford, Stratford, Bridgeport, South Norwalk, Stamford, NYC. The express trains are throughout the day base on demand but local trains are all day long.

You can’t have that many stops and attain speeds of 150-170 miles per hour. The stations are too close. You would need trains that only stop in New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford and Grand Central Terminal to get close to that for any substantial speed.

Unfortunately that leaves no service to major towns like Milford (50,000 people), Fairfield (61,000 people), Norwalk (91,000 people), and Greenwich (63,000 people). And let’s not forget big rail commuter towns like Westport and Darien. That’s a lot of people to overlook. Jay

CTs transportation infrastructure is on the cusp of disaster.
Metro North is an utter atrocity. I’m in Manhattan today. Both trips were a nightmare. The morning ride was standing room only. I literally took one step off the Darien platform and remained right at the door in the vestibule the entire ride. People didn’t even bother boarding at Stamford. You think one of the CT public school educated Nobel Prize winners at DOT or MN would have maybe added more service for the day since there was a UCONN game at the Garden.

95 and 15 are travesties beyond any level of comprehension. At this point CT should just throw in the towel and call in some transportation consultants from the United Emirates. They’ll have a study and plan in place in 10 minutes. Put ‘em in a first class cabin in an Emirates A380 to JFK, a limo to Hartford, then give them a blank check and keys to the Kingdom.

You could do 150, Jay Bridgeport-Stamford staying local until then, in another train perhaps go local to Fairfield Metro, most likely get to 120 or so to Stamford. Now I do think it's above the skill set of government employees to make it happen.

It would behoove us also to go 50/50, one 150mph train, few stops, one local, per hour. They run two an hour both ways now.

This state has settled for far too little MT progress.

I don’t think it’s only the UConn game. It seems that the Christmas season has started early this year. I know several people that normally go into New York between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this year they went this weekend. I’m sure there are ,any others.

You have to understand that CTDOT and Metro North aren’t mind readers. They base their trains on historic data of train usage. There is always something going on in New York. It’s hard to anticipate how many will take trains when, especially on weekends. If you can read minds and know better, I’m sure they could use you to help them. If you can’t, then too bad. Not much more can be done. Jay

It is putrid, and government monopolies almost always are.

NHL *could* be rated back up to nearly max speed 100mph inter-stop, when the FRA certifies the newish signaling system and some short but critical spans are fixed like the Walk Bridge and the planned Darien section straightening and fixing the fouled ballasts.

The issues of major stop only express trains though is the labor shortage for MNRR, track slotting, off-boarding and on-boarding timing, and some much needed switching upgrades to get to more peer international systems.

Final note on this topic, even though raising the inter-stop speed gets headlines and attention the overall return is somewhat diminishing. Increasing frequency could be a much better use of resources... but that gets yawns for some reason.
