lol. I was thinking same thing. Since Sandy hasn't been any big storms. Only local T-Storms or wind which may have knocked the power out for some. Sure nice to have as backup but I'm sure some folks want their $1000+ back. Some folks don't even run it and test it periodically. Some will be discontinued too.

And speaking of big storms .......................

Nope, none in sight. lol

I find When we go from El Nino to Neutral or La Nina I find that's when we get some big storms. It's about the atmospheric shifts and the active Sub Tropical Jet which is needed to0 fuel big storms. Last time we had a Nino transition out was 2009-10 and that's about when the parade of storms started happening.

So as Nino weakens now, they are predicting Neutral conditions by Summer and maybe Nina by next winter.

So this may be a signal for big storms coming again.

There was a 2 footer last year, but kind of dissipated closer to the shore. That was a scary storm. Remember working in Litchfield drove up in the storm, drove during work in it, and drove home after the storm. AWD slipping and sliding couldn't see anything on the road. Pretty intense suprised never lost power during that storm.

That works great for three kids under the age of seven. I've already won this exchange, sandy already broke even times five

Curious what you are using to factor the "break even" comment. It's not like you made or saved money being without power. I would think using a generator when having no power is more of a grateful thing, not a $$ thing on return of investment.

Forgot all about it, thanks for the reminder.
Actually worked out great, bought it just before Irene hit, and used for the halloween snowstorm, and Sandy.
Not too concerned with ROI on $500-600 or whatever it cost.

Sorry guys, nothing controversial or salty about my comments. This is a simple mathematical exercise. ROI. 1200 for generator plus transfer switch. I would need at least two hotel rooms for eight nights during Sandy. We are a family of five, and had two little ones under age 2 at the time. Staying at home is a non-starter given well water and septic. 8x$300 is much higher than $1200 for a generator and transfer switch.

Oh.. you're using staying somewhere and an extreme like what we had. Got it. Otherwise a simple power outage people stay home and wait. No expense. Actually.. Fridge and freezer items count too. Lol. Thanks

And that's assuming you would even be able to find rooms to book.
