And remember, the teachers have to work later then the students too, so just because the kids get out on June 18 or whatever, the teachers probably aren't done until like June 20 or 21. And more snow days equals later time in the summer grading for the teachers (and also remember they start earlier then the students too!)
2) With the 50 degree temperatures we've been having it will have to really snow...a hard and for an extended period of time to really stick and cause dangerous conditions.
3) I'm not sure if this is the case or not but I believe if you call in a delayed opening you CANNOT have an early dismissal on the same day (7 Wishes or any other educator let me know if this is actually true or not). So if that is indeed the case and these administrators take your advice and call in the delayed opening tonight, but it turns out the worst of it is going to be a 2 PM, then I think the school districts are screwed.
Edit: 1 last thing I forgot to add
4) The school districts are already scheduled to have next Friday (the 12) and the following Monday (the 15) off for Presidents day. And I think this storm coming up next week (Monday to Wednesday time frame) is going to be worse than this one is. So the administrators cancel school today. The other storm comes in Tuesday mid morning and stays until Wednesday afternoon and drops a foot let's say, so they give kids an early dismissal Tuesday, cancel Wednesday, and give them a delayed opening Thursday. So in a 10 day span (7 school day span) they'd have 2 scheduled days off, 2 cancelled days, 1 delayed opening, and 1 early dismissal. That's A LOT of missed time in a short amount of time.
Not sure about point #3 though it you have a delayed opening and then have to early dismiss a
so you barely have school a lot of people will wonder why you didnt just close. A bigger issue on delays is if you have a planned early dismissal for teacher development seminars (many districts do this about once a month) or report card conferences and have to decide on an delayed opening. I have seen this happen twice, once in Danbury and once in Bridgeport and their policy when they do a delayed opening on such a day is to cancel the teacher seminars and early dismissal which pisses the parents off because they long planned aroun early dismissal thay day. I've heard that in some other districts they'll just be quick to close if snow happens on such a day.

Regarding #4 above, many distrcts vary now because of this, until a few years ago it was a week long February break (which many NY districts still do though some there are backtracking from it as well). Stamford, Norwalk and Bridgeport are closed the 12, 15 and 16 as you say, but Danbur is closed only te 15 and 16 and Trumbull only the 12 and 15.

Just drive to my office in Stamford from Trumbull. Trumbull roads were a mess (as was Route 25 / 8), but once I got on the Expressway it was fine. Got to work faster than most days because I think a lot of people stayed home today.

However... 1 area doesn't mean the same for another... Just north a bit more in Milford, CT roads are slick

I should have taken 95.......I got on the Merritt at 5:20 and it was complete and utter mess all the way down to I287. It took me an hour to go from Exit 56 to Exit 40.
Spring in 43 days..........

There was about 3-4" in Marlborough/Hebron at 7 this morning. Secondary roads and state roads were not well treated or plowed. Route 2 was a dream- clear, low volume. Most commuters seemed to be behaving themselves taking it slow. Hartford city roads are more wet than slushy, not too bad.

Route 1 from Westbrook to Madison was snow covered with driving tracks. Fairly manageable but I did see a car off the road into the median at the Hammonasset connector. This was about 45 minutes ago.

Getting a good amount here in Colchester. I didn't bother going in to work so I can try out my new snow blower I picked up just in time.

Roads are deteriorating now in Hartford area. They were pretty clear around 7-8 am. Now they are pretty slushy.
