I saw flurries and so did Long Island.. It's the earliest and warmest I ever saw snow flakes. 44° Oct 18th. So we had our first frost, freeze, and flakes in the same day. Too bad my station stopped at 30.0° otherwise it would of been 1st 20s too.

What month is this?

BDR officially reported a trace of snow, tying 1972 for this date (not earliest ever date, that's 10/2/1952).

Their low of 33 was just one short of the record for the date.

Just so others are aware... a "Trace" is when snow falls but doesnt stick... a dusting could also be a trace. In 1952 they had to wait till December to see snow accumulate just 0.10" or more.

BDR's earliest accumulating snow was Oct 29, 2011..

Very tough but you saw today how this setup could easily do it. Just needed a little more precip falling. Wow. Close!

Lots of us were suprised. I was like what the heck is that. Lol. Whats crazy is we dont see this type of airmass again next 10 days. Just seasonable which means chilly and warm at times.

Another cold night tonight and day tomm.

Its 38° at 7:30pm mid October. Whaaa?

Bridgeport max today was 49°. Doesnt happen often before October 19th. Only 7 times since 1948. Last time was 2009. Before that was 1989.

Actually BDR's earliest accumulating snow was Oct 4, 1987 when 0.5" fell. I remember it well, was living in the Albany area where an incredible 6" fell and lots of blackouts up there from trees that fell from wet, heavy snow.

Earliest inch or more was the date you gave (then Sandy on that date the next year, I guess they made the perfect birthdays for a weather geek like me)

Hmmm. 1/2" of snow Oct 4th at Bridgeport? That doesn't sound right. Unless it was sleet? I see 1 source say that but the other doesn't.

1.25" precip that day. Did the rain change to snow or maybe the snow started first then changed to rain. The "Trace" recorded as depth is a 8am measurement. So maybe it fell over night, accumulated 1/2" then changed to rain

OBS history shows Rain, Snow, Fog at 6am Oct 4, 1987 but no OBS recorded before that? Great time for them to have issues. lol
