Another day we fell far short of predicted highs. Lower 80s down here in Central NJ with a forecast high of 90. Similar result throughout the region. My prediction, no locations breach 90 this week.

I was out & about around 4 pm today, and temps were 91 - 93 F on my car thermometer around West Hartford/Farmington.

I remember when October had temps in the 80s...

Hmm, does this mean that this "Indian summer" will happen in October?! I sure hope so...

And the big winner is Poughkeepsie with a high of 95 today (Newark right behind at 94).

Danbury and New Britain schools already declared heat related early dismissal tommorrow. I bet at the very least Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven will do the same (large districts with a lot of non-a/c schools)

Looks like New Britain actually declared the early dismissal for tomorrow at 10am today and is already declaring it for Wednesday as well. And Norwalk has joined the bandwagon:

Some Connecticut schools plan to close early from heat | WTNH Connecticut News

And as I predicted (not in the article) Bridgeport is having early dismissal too....

Early dismissal? School just started. Was it not hot in the 60s, 70s, 80s??? No AC back then either. Don't most schools have AC these days?

We are really creating a world of wimps IMO. Suck it up Francis!

Actually most schools (except to some extent in 'rich' districts) DO NOT have a/c, they figure since there is no school during most of when a/c is needed they can save some money. Some teachers do put window a/c in their rooms, but not all schools allow this and many rooms are not setup to fit a window a/c.

Difference between 60s - 80s are schools more liable for lawsuits nowadays if kids get heatstroke, etc.

On a different note, Cambium, maybe Caribou, ME is the place for you. Look at this recap of August, they too broke a record of straight days over 80, their streak was a whopping TEN DAYS! They had their warmest August ever without a single 90 degree day!

Another weird thing, if this map was right, the Northeast outside New England and the NYC and Philly areas were BELOW normal this month?

August 2015 Climate Narrative - Warmest on record at Caribou!

Oh yeah.. I been noticing CAR more and more. You think we had a long winter last yr? Theirs started in November and never let up till May with historic cold and snow for them which is nuts. And you can have a below normal snowfall yr and still get over 7 feet of it! Lol nice!! And wont melt in days like our cement snow does. Although no complaints lately.. never thought Id live to see mountain type fluff snows near the coast multiple times back to back.

And yeah, installing AC in existing old schools is expensive and not worth it for couple weeks a year. (May,Sept) although if you asked my teachers way back then, I wished we had it for April and October as well. Lol I would fan myself and teachers would hate it. Ugh. Bad hot classroom memories
