I get the parent conference experience. Having worked and lived in the city and sending my kids to private school here, I must admit that I've not been immune from that type of behavior either (not as abrupt or rude, but same attitude).

The church thing though is crazy. we are not religious (not against it, but would hate it if felt pressure to get baptized!) Also don't want to live a place where I'd have to jump through hoops to play some golf or go boating.

appreciate it.
You can live in Darien and do your golfing/boating in Stamford. Its literally 'right there' so to speak. Stamford has two golf courses (plus three additional ones right on its borders; one is partly in Greenwich and partly in Stamford but the club house is in Greenwich, the other is in NY just over the border along High Ridge Road and its hard to really miss it as the forest suddenly clears on the left and looks very beautiful, the third course is also on the NY state border but this time the entry is on the right on Long Ridge Road literally on the border.)

There are several yacht clubs in Stamford too and a Darien club has its private beach in the Shippan area of Stamford (I never found out how that came to be.)

I think there is at least one golf course in Norwalk too, which is east of Darien. The same applies in New Canaan (north of Darien), but things might be stuffy over there. Its worth to give it a try though.

You can have a backup plan as far as golfing and boating is concerned.

There are a couple of raquet clubs in Stamford too, in case you are into tennis. I highly suggest the one in Shippan.

Child of interracial marriage, everyone in darien is kind and great. Lots of asian kids in the public school system... not sure what everyone else is talking about. You will only ever feel uncomfortable if you enter the country club arena.

You will only ever feel uncomfortable if you enter the country club arena. The Boat Club has a 10 year wait list as it is, for a slip that is, regardless of race. The country clubs are pretty aryan, probably because applying for membership is based on referrals from current members, so it would take years of making friends/networking to get in as it is.

Thankfully, America has very few sundown towns left.
