High property tax makes up for it. Not uncommon to see $12-13k a year property taxes on a $500k house.

Well we're paying exactly that already in West Hartford, plus the state income tax, plus sales tax, plus property tax on cars too.

I prefer the Alaska method which has no sales tax but allows for municipalities(who tend to spend the money better) to charge a sales tax and because the towns compete against each other for capital it remains low, like 1% on average. Generally speaking states typically offer at least one thing that's attractive about their tax code; No income tax or Low property taxes or No sales tax or Low/no gov fees, etc CT doesn't offer any relief anywhere, everything is taxed and everything is taxed at a high rate. It's created an environment where the middle class simply can not afford to live here anymore which is why many are leaving.

After Erin Steward dropped out I wasn't going to vote in the Republican Primary. But I just looked up Tim Herbst's tax information vs Boughton who wants to do away with the state income tax.

Tim Herbst.
- Eliminate the income tax for anyone making $75,000 or less.
Tax Reform - Tim Herbst for Connecticut

That is awesome and will help the middle class. I will vote for him in the primary and if he wins I will give him my vote for Governor.

Mark Boughton
It is time to do away with the state income tax. I have a phased plan to remake state government and lower the income tax until it is completely eliminated.
About Mark Boughton - CT Comeback Committee

Will hurt the middle class as regressive taxes will need to be raised to make up for no income tax. Like I said, he would not get my vote.

Exactly could end up paying $10K on a $180K house, $1400 on car taxes, $5,000 on income taxes, $400 to $600 a year on sales tax, $200 to $400 on gas taxes, and so forth. Where is the break in CT.

Ideally if someone can step up and go...
1.) Let's look at privatizing State benefits and encourage town's/cities to do the same. Grandfather those in the State with 5 year's or more to keep their pension/current retirement package.
2.) Look at State services and infrastructure...See what can be privatized.
3.) Tolls and private highways.
4.) Eliminate the gas tax, Estate Tax, social security tax, and tax on pensions.
5.) Eliminate various business regulations to encourage employment growth.
6.) Flat low competive corporate tax rate of 4% to 6% and exempt commercial property from property tax...Implent in a course of 6 to 8 year's.
7.) One time property car tax fee. Every 3 year's renew car registration with an additional $20 fee to pay for parls/natural resources in the State.
8.) Privatize the DMV and make most services available online.
9.) Legalize marijuana. Excise tax of 10% to 12% on cigarettes, marijuana, and liquor to pay for homeless and mental health services.
10.) Create an infrastructure bank.
11.) Eliminate sales tax in 5 years. In 5 years create a flat low rate income tax of 4%. Across the board incone is not taxed at 4% until you reach $40,000 and over. Total taxed for the year below $40,000 is taxed at a flat 2% rate.
12.) In four year's cap all property tax at a 20 Mill Rate and do away with taxes on car. Instead one time car tax that goes directly to the State.
13.) Allow town's/cities to add a yearly $.10 cents tax to home and auto property to fund for schools in their town/city.
14.) Allow towns/cities to implant their own sales tax not to exceed $.25 cents.
15.) Make public higher education affordable and increases flexibility to CT residents. Work with local employers to hire CT college Grads.
16.) Bring back public adult trade programs. Make them affordable and integrate them in the Community College's.
17.) Increase funding towards technical high schools in the State and create a new technical high school in the State.

Im in favor of less taxes, but what will pay the legacy costs. On top of that Ct is still offering pensions. That needs to stop today.

I made a post about this guy a couple months ago. He's a fool and you need to research what company(ies) he used to be the CEO of. After finding that out let me know if you still think he's a good choice.
