How concerned (or not concerned) should I be about a drive from New Haven to Fairfield around 5pm?

Those of us who have been desperate this year for some kind of winter in the winter, will take anything we can get.

Plus, it is a non event mostly, BUT..if the timing is just wrong and its rush our..even a 1 inch 15 minute drop would really create issues..All timing.

Exactly. - I follow a weather thread based out of NY (Hudson Valley) first, because my local weather is far more aligned with that region than it is with the rest of the state of CT; second, because they are almost completely spot on, when other forecasts consistently seem to miss the mark for my area; and third because they are NEVER fear mongerers, and actually will freely admit they’re erring on the other side of the spectrum if there are any doubts, which there seem to have been many for the professionals this season... (for example how good they are for my part of CT, they are the *only* forecast group that gave me the heads up that the November 15th rush hour storm could potentially be a 9” + one for me... it turned out to be 11” and they’re the only reason I left my office in Stamford at 1 pm and was one of the few commuters from my area who didn’t get stuck in a 6 hour drive home)
Anyway that all said, they are saying while the squall will be extremely fast moving, the air temps coupled with the winds and cold front pushing thru, we (in these parts at least) will likely experience treacherous/near white out conditions at around the 4 pm-ish hour.

10:10am-2:10pm loop. Here it comes. Darker blue snow icons = heavy snow falling. Beginning clouds just started rolling in here..

The hills must be enhancing the instability with the Arctic front passing. (-20C at 5000 feet crossing our area now) -4F

Hearing about a pileup in PA.

What it looks like underneath it

"Yeah, I don’t use the near whiteout conditions phrase lightly, either. One of the more impressive snow squalls I have seen locally."

Wonder if NWS NY will issue one.

FYI... temps dropping to near 0 tonight salt wont be as effective and nothing wont be melting fast

to accidents.

Reduce your speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the
visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions.

Wet roadways will quickly freeze. Black ice will cause roads, bridges
