Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
400 AM EST Wed Mar 8 2023.

For Friday into Saturday, the focus turns to a strengthening mid
level shortwave in the Central US that is forecast to further
deepen and become closed off. At the surface, a low pressure
system will develop and approach the area on Friday. Then, with
the trough moving across Friday night, the energy transferring
into the Atlantic is forecast to induce offshore cyclogenesis.

Models have varied with the evolution and positioning of this
low but they have a general consensus taking the low south of
the area on Saturday, bringing a period of rain and snow Friday
night into Saturday along with gusty NE winds. Too early to
determine exact details with any higher confidence. High end
limits of snowfall does show potential for several inches of
accumulation even towards the coastline. Temperatures though
will be more marginal along the coastline for snow to stick to
surfaces

Saturday March 11 Storm Update::

A storm will eject from the Rockies tomorrow and it heads towards Lake Erie like the past 3 months..... BUT.... it stops and transfers its energy to a new coastal storm. So warm air doesn't push north like it did over winter.

Where that coastal storm forms and the track it takes is still uncertain but the Euro has it forming off Virginia and then flat going East. There is enough cold air for snow for us especially because there is an upper Level low crossing over us!

More importantly… Look what is off the PacNW. That's our big Monday's storm.

Euro12z has 0.31" qpf for Bridgeport Friday night and cold enough for snow. That equates to about 3-4". So it shifted north a bit

We wont talk about Monday yet.
