Wow!
So...that would infer dewpoints in the low 60s. Much better, but still not to the gold standard (e.g. Northern California)!

Jay, Move if you wish but I consider this a PSA, as I noticed the article which mentions the 2 teens who drowned, also states water levels are many times normal levels. I recall how the Wepawaug in downtown Milford was barely contained during our recent 6+ inches of rain, and recall it did not take much more to cause the big Milford flood in the 70s.

Not sure if it is still unsafe for kids to swim in parts of CT due to this.

Very sad story.

July 20, 2021

The sun and the dust..
From Southwest CT

With the wildfires in Western US and Canada and the position of the Jet stream and the Northwest winds aloft, smoke is drifting over into this region.

According to Gil Simmons on Channel 8, the haze we have across the state is due to fires way up in Canada. Crazy to think that. Jay

This is on topic and a very good warning for people to not swim in a swollen river. It may look calm but the current usually is a lot stronger than it looks and could take under even the strongest swimmer. I remember watching the Connecticut River once. The surface looked calm and barely moving but then a piece of debris went by and I could not believe how fast it was moving. Jay

NWS NY

Smoke and 80s. Hate!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
1213 PM EDT Tue Jul 20 2021.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Forecast on track this afternoon.

Hazy skies will continue to be common into this evening due to
wildfire smoke from the western US and southwest Canada fires
.
The HRRR smoke fields from Global Systems Laboratory shows the
smoke well, mainly aloft. The Vertically Integrated Smoke field
does not show much improvement until the upper trough begins to
shift down across New England tonight and especially on
Wednesday.

A thermal trough develops over the region into this afternoon.
A hazy day is in store, with some cumulus becoming more
widespread into the afternoon. Temperatures by this afternoon
will approach 90 in the metro areas, but heat index values will
be similar to air temperatures with dew points in the middle
and upper 60s.

More summer-like today with hazy sunshine (courtesy of smoke
from fires out west into Canada)
and temps warming into the mid
and upper 80s along with dew pts 65-70. Even low 80s for highs
at the beaches before afternoon seabreezes develop.
