Darien is in gridlock right now.
If a burned out bridge and closed exit isn’t stopping anyone from coming through CT, not adding lanes sure won’t stop them either.

Never suggested not adding lanes would stop people from coming here. A significant percentage of the population want to utilize mass transit options if they were available - but they aren’t, except directly along the coast.

Yep, just add the new lanes. Quite frankly sometimes you don’t sound very smart.

Nevermind the bridges, just add the lanes.

Maybe you’re not aware that this is not Dubai? Do they even have NIMBY’s over there?

You would need 10,000 workers and engineers get the project done within 1 year CT doesn’t have kind of money.

Are they finally not going to finish in last place this year for once?
Honestly I haven’t followed them much for a few years. No idea where they are in the standings, but I still have a hat. Good call for getting on the train early because of the game. It was packed by Westport. No issue in West Haven.

The bridge is already gone. It appears the new bridge will be on the place of the current retention walls as oppose to creating new ones further setback to accommodate a future expansion of the highway. That will also make the new bridge longer, further increasing its costs.

The entire work of replacing the damaged bridge is estimated to cost $20 million, according to one of the politicians cited in the article. If that’s how much it will cost, then so be it; but is that the true costs or in the end total costs will be higher?

$20 million is probably the “rush fee”

Those “retention walls” are called abutments and I assume that they will be reused if they were not damaged by the fire. It’s hard to say. The same goes for the center pier.

That is likely “rush fee”. The state will hopefully be able to use Accelerated Bridge Construction on this. Thats where they build the bridge superstructure (deck, parapets, road, etc.) off line and then move it into place between the abutment and pier.

I talked to engineers at the firm that designed that bridge 10 years ago. Another thing to note is that this bridge had a utilities going under it. There was water, gas, cable, telephone and power lines under it. Those will have to be restored as well. It will likely be out of service for at least a year or two. Will see.
