Hello All,
Which areas in northern NJ are affordable to live in, for commuting to Stamford/CT for me and to take the train to NYC Penn Station for my spouse. We do not have kids and plan to relocate from Old Bridge NJ.
We are in 2 minds if we have to move to CT or to northern NJ.
In a dilemma currently, it will be a big help if someone can suggest options.....

Thanks In Advance.
PRG.

Well, if one of you is working in Stamford and the other in NYC, I can't imagine why you wouldn't buy in Stamford or the surrounding area of CT. Obviously the commute from NJ would be longer than living right there...unless you have a really strong pull to NJ, I'd head straight to CT. Is it solely a pricing issue?

Try Ridgefield and other areas just a bit "too far" north for the really high real estate prices.

Commuting from northern New Jersey to Stamford will not be easy. Assuming you live in one of the northern Bergen County towns like Mahwah or Montvale, the trip across the Tappen Zee Bridge is not easy and then you will hit traffic heading into Stamford. Without traffic this trip will take 30 to 45 minutes. With traffic I would say an hour or more.

I agree with frogandtoad that you should consider moving to the Stamford area. There is good access to New York and there are a lot of nice places to live in the area. Good luck, Jay

Try Rockland County, New York... it's a lot more New Jerseyish than Westchester and will make the commute to Stamford and into the City much easier. Plus, the Palisades Mall would be in your backyard (hopefully, not literally) and the Tappan Zee is right there. West Nyack has a very good school system which almost compares to schools in lower Fairfield County. Check it out. The tristate area presents many options for the homebuyer. I love our NY-NJ-CT region.

With all the work that's being done on I-287 in both directions, and constant road work on the Tappan Zee, commuting to Stamford from NJ would likely be a nightmare. I agree with frogandtoad and JayCT that living in Stamford (or north of Stamford if you're taking the train) and commuting to NYC would be a better option.
