Not from the same area, but using my phone isn't usually high on my to do list when I dont have power for 3 weeks.
Finding a way to not spoil our food and cook is a slightly bigger concern, and that one usually kicks in at around 4-6 hours.
It's nice to be able to contact your employer...or vice versa. Without power, my employer had to lay me off...while I hunted for other jobs to do to make money...because I still needed money...even with no power.
Nice for friends & family to know that you are ok when there is a power outage...& to be able to call for help if needed!! Oh no eleectric for the fridge...thats what canned food is for!!

Corn, peas, pork n beans, stewed tomatoes....can all be eaten STRAIGHT from the can with no heating necessary.
However, we did have a generator to run "necessary" items, like the fridge/freezer...but you can only put so much of a load on them at once...
Because i use my landline telephone so much, i am annoyed by the curly-Q wire that i constantly have to unravel. does any co. make "straight" wiring without all of the kinks?
get a wireless headset and get rid of the wires all together..
