Bones and Tin Man,

My new home is in escrow and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for the Crossville/Lake Tansi area for dry wall, painting, lock smith, general basic carpentry (bolting on the deck, replacing rotting wood in door frames, etc.). I know this has to be sent off list, but of you have any recommendations, either for or to avoid, please send them my way

Hi Folks,
We should be moving to the Cookeville / Crossville area by the end of this summer but Im a bit confused by the crime stat on Crossville. According to the figures here, they had 135 assaults, 833 thefts, 43 auto thefts and 243 burglaries. these particular crimes are well over double the national average. Cookeville averages in at about half the overall Crossville stat. Iv been to Crossville once and just don't get it.... These are big inner city type stats found in Crossville??? I like the Crossville area and still have it as a top area to move to or Cookeville but this has me stumped. Ideas?

I am not at all sure where the numbers come from, but I am like you, in the process of moving there. I have been reading the local paper for a few months and do not see crimes listed there to match the numbers either, so I hope someone who lives there can enlighten us

Also Trulia webpage only gives a few felony crimes--3 to be exact--the murder of 4, a bombing threat and one other I can not recall now.

Red face Looking to steer away from Wisconsin, advice would be fabulous!

My husband and I have been wanting to move south for several years now, and Tennessee has suddenly flashed up on our radar. My cousin (I actually think her husband has responded on here as tjp) lives in Crossville, and has a nice lot of land. I'm hoping to speak with her about it soon, but I'd love some advice in the meantime!

We both (currently) work for walmart, he in management, so I've little doubt that we could transfer down. However, before we'd feel comfortable buying, I'm sure that we'd want to rent for awhile first. Are there any areas to avoid? I see crossville, cookeville, and rockwood, any special areas to eye up?

I'm pregnant with our second child, and we're hoping to homeschool - anybody on here have any input on how the state responds to homeschooling, such as wacky regulations and whatnot?

Are just about all of the churches baptist, or are there a few pentecostal churches within reasonable distance?

We love the idea of a "small town" without necessarily completely isolating ourselves. We're quiet, conservative people looking to meet like-minded people - here in wisconsin, if you're not an alcoholic, you're sorta excluded. I've seen bickering on here about "outsider" acceptance. Is this a legit issue or simply bickering for the sake of it?

This... Was long. (HA!) any advice is appreciated. Thanks, and god bless!

Crossville is smaller and more conservative with less amenities than Cookeville. Rockwood is an even smaller town but closer to Knoxville. I wouldn't say any area among the three is an area to avoid.

Home schooling in TN is pretty lax. Baptist is the dominant church but there are Pentecostal churches in both Cookeville and Crossville.

If you carry yourself as an outsider you will most likely be treated as one. There are lots of transplants here in Tennessee from all over the country and abroad. Some fit right in some don't. That's up to you.
