His story was that he was running late to work, and didn't even have time to feed the child, or drop him off at the babysitter's. Even that excuse doesn't hold water, though, as people have asked why he didn't call the sitter to come get the child. For that matter, he could have taken a cab with the child to drop him off on lunch break. He had options.

He's a copycat of that other father who left his baby in the car while working. That guy pretended he forgot he had a baby in the car. I'm sure that news story gave him inspiration to do this.
Maybe not a copycat. The date on the article in the above link is Sep 2013.

I still think he did it on purpose. Nobody is that dumb. Mentally challenged people take better care of their children.

Oh I agree with you. He either did it on purpose, or he just didn't care about the kid. Either way, he's the worst type of dirtbag there is.

According to one of the reports posted earlier, the guy had a history of carelessness with the child, that indicated he didn't really care. Plus, his regular babysitter was waiting for the child, she was expecting him to drop the child off, per earlier agreement. So he lied to police about not knowing he'd be required to work that day.

I still want to know how he came to have custody of a kid he seemed to feel burdened with and didn't seem to want.
Exactly! Actually, too bad some idiot did not come along and steal the car, considering how this story ended up for the baby. The baby would probably still be alive. Maybe sneakily "dropped off" at a hospital, mall, etc., but alive.

If he's got custody, the mom must be a worse dirtbag than he is!

Oh brother! All he seems worried about is getting legal aid instead of having to pay for a lawyer himself!

One exception was fueling up and paying at the pump. Or I did not stop until I got to my destination. Poor kid was probably dehydated. Maybe we should lock the parent in the car for a couple of hours. Dumba**!!
This still happens constantly! Seems every other day I am hearing a new story ... even with all the "cautionary tales" out there because babies have died this summer! It's scary!

Maybe due to her life circumstances, she wasn't able to keep and care for the child at all. But I can't help wondering if he hadn't kidnapped the child from the mom, out of anger/bitterness. A certain percentage of kidnapping cases are the result of rancor between exes.

I wish the media would follow up on details of stories, instead of just publishing a flash-in-the-pan incident, without going deeper, and moving on to the next hot thing.

Unfortunately, sometimes (depending on their agenda) many in the media actually do the opposite and go into waaaay more detail/information/analysis than they should.... much of which is irrelevant or flat out wrong. So I don't know which is worse, not enough info... or too much.
