I wonder what they're going to do with that body. From what I've read, he's now more contagious than at any time during his life.
The "viral load" shortly after death is off the charts, and officials suspect that Ebola has spread throughout villages due to specific "hands-on" African rituals of tending to the dead.
Are they going to call a funeral home? Who's going to want to pick up that body???
Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention call for the remains to be immediately shrouded in plastic and double-bagged in leak-proof bags at the hospital, then promptly cremated or buried in an airtight casket.
He was probably too ill with kidney/liver failure to have any response to a drug, never mind unproven and experimental. The best treatment is early supportive treatment (hydration/nutrition) and he was pretty sick before that started.
No, he could have been alive and maintained by dialysis and vent. At that point, it's highly unlikely that someone with Ebola will recover due to organ damage. The point of recovery is before any mechanical assist (not that that was available in countries of origin) and the supportive treatment that can save a life is fairly low tech, and needs to be started quite early.

Right, I saw that in the reports, but I guess what I'm asking is, is that when they turned off the ventilator? Quit the dialysis?
Did they keep him going until family could say good-bye?
From what I've read, it sounds like he "died" sometime earlier. Then again, I guess we'll never know, and it probably doesn't matter now.
The family saw him yesterday but wasn't allowed in the room. They had a video stream set up or something like that. In hindsight, I guess they did it so the family could say their goodbyes.
I was really hoping he'd survive. They were giving him that new medication but i guess it was too late for him.
