A young girl was struck and killed while walking across the light rail tracks in my town. Sadly, she was wearing headphones and probably didn't hear it coming. It is tragic. Not sure why she didn't pay attention and look before she crossed though.
So family and friends held an unofficial gathering at the light rail tracks in the evening to remember her. It was reported they were all standing on the tracks. .... Did they want to join her??? WTH??? What is wrong with people??
I don't know if it's Darwinism related, but people become so oblivious to their surroundings and don't know when danger is close by. It is STUPID holding a candlelight virgil on the tracks where the girl died.

But she certainly should have felt it coming. Even a light-rail train would make the ground shake.
I just watched a video that showed 3 kids walking on the side of an icy street. A car, sliding out of control, slid into a light pole, just missing all of them. One girl was directly in the path, and never knew the car was coming at her. None of the kids were wearing headphones.
It's hard to teach kids environmental awareness. Even harder when the environment is completely familiar and routine. Unexpected things happen all the time, and I think most adults aren't much more alert than kids, especially when they're in their own neighborhoods.
It reminded me of the girl who died while posting that she was "Happy" while listening to Pharell's song "Happy" as she was driving. She was also snapping and posting selfies while driving.
There are shortages of lots of things in this world. Dumbasses ain't one of them.
