From the clip I got the impression that Vili was very uncomfortable in the spotlight and revisiting the past on national TV. He was thrust into the national spotlight in a very traumatic way at a very vulnerable time in life (puberty) and did not get the help he needed. I thought Mary Kay was phony, trying to put on an act that they are a happily married, very normal and well adjusted couple today. Her smile looks very artificial, like she is posing for the camera. I hope ABC will put the entire interview on YouTube or their website. Would like to see the whole thing.

This story, as sickening as it is, has a completely biased spin on it b/c the abuser is a female and the victim is a male. It can be easily romanticized and skewed to evoke sympathy for them.

If this had been a male abuser with a female student, the outlook from the media wouldn't be as kind. Neither would it be gentle.

Your definition of rape is rather narrow. He wasn't old enough to legally consent, so it was rape. That he was a willing participant is not the issue when kids kids are involved.

The human body responds to stimuli. It doesn't mean that a child wants to be sexually abused just because his or her body responds to that stimuli.

They seem happy together. They both had their issues before they even met (which were further complicated after their affair was discovered and publically scrutinized for years), but he was the aggressor and she was an emotionally needy woman who didn't have the ability to see clearly and act accordingly. It's not like she was some sick pedophile drooling over child pornography and he was her victim. The gender divide on this topic is understandable (womens' opinions are driven by their motherly instincts), but the power dynamic is usually very different between a situation like this and one in which the teacher was a male and the student a female. That's why most teenage boys would love to have a teacher like her (remember Van Halen's Hot for Teacher?), while most teenage girls would be repulsed by it.

I interpret this as your justification for their relationship.

Let's be clear about something, agressor or not, a 13 year old is a 13 year old. This is a CHILD..no matter what type of spin you place on it.

And the fact that she was "an emotionally needy woman" somehow lessens the blow or makes her actions any more acceptable?

She was an adult. A married adult. A married adult with 4 children.

And when does someone need to be sitting at home, "drooling over child pornography," as you put it, to be a pedophile? She actively pursued a sexual relationship with a child. I don't know about you, but this makes her a pedophile.

But because she wasn't sitting at home doing those things (and how do you know that she wasnt? seriously?), it's a moot point: She still is no less responsible or accountable.

Disgusting.

It's really a shame that this country has become so desensitized that tv networks televise this nonsense for ratings. If Barbara Walters thinks it's perfectly normal and ok to interview these "people", then the reports that she has Alzheimer's must be true.

These people are stomach turning. I've read that he has been battling alcoholism and depression - no surprise there. At the age of 30, he has a 53 year old ball and chain tied around his neck. She robbed him of his childhood. I also wouldn't be a bit surprised if he one day emotionally explodes and knocks her off (instead of up).

All around the media has been dumbing down the institution of marriage. Marriage, plain and simple, should be an enduring and stable relationship between a male and female. Particularly enduring and stable when children are involved.

For this manipulator, who belongs being a lifer, to be married to her victim is beyond revolting.

For millennia it was normal for people to be sexually active by the age of puberty. I think the age of consent should be around 14 like much of Europe is. The notion that this adult man is still being manipulated by this woman is silly. Do people not realize that most of the population have sexual relationships before the age of consent? I don't subscribe to the Victorian notion that sex is damaging to youth after the age of puberty.
