I guess you've never heard of "Wrongful Death Suit."
Unless you can explain how this might actually happen when a cop kills a party dangerous to the public, then it's pretty meaningless.
Nobody takes a wrongful death suit to court unless they have a very good reason to believe they will prevail. In the case of the police killing someone clearly dangerous to the public, I think it would be very very difficult to sit a jury that would deliver a guilty verdict.
I think your disagreement is more with the legal system that allows someone who commits a robbery and then walks off through a regular neighborhood popping off rounds.
The sad part is that if the police had shot and killed this guy, he'd be dead and there'd be no lawsuit. Any rational judge should throw this case immediately.
There should have been more coordination among the cops. The video already confirmed and recorded the fact that the criminal is armed and dangerous. So, instead of racing down with a car, they should all get out of their cars and shoot him dead from a safe distance. If you are walking down the street after committing a crime brandishing a rifle and setting it off in the middle of the street, you are definitely a major threat to public safety. In that case, law enforcement has every right and in fact a duty to neutralize you as a threat....that means terminating you as a threat. I think this officer went to too much trouble when a coordinated gun assault on the criminal would have been just fine.

That is an option but by stopping you give up some of the initiative and give the gunman an opportunity to stop and take aim while the security forces are stopping and getting ready. If nobody else where around to fall victims to stray bullets a brave man would not have need to take immediate action to stop the shooter.
Yep, if the cops shot at him, there is a chance bystanders would be hit.
It's amazing how many people defend the criminal these days!
Yeah, this criminal wasn't just some jaywalker. We are talking armed and dangerous. Seems the media machine is hyping up any possible police wrongdoing they can dig up. That is where the money is right now. People are "tuning in" and the for profit media is cashing in. What an odd society we are living in compared to the old days that the big three TV news channels were actually required by congress to provide people with an hour of news a day as a PUBLIC SERVICE! The news media is hardly a public service these days, it is shock value click bait for profit with truth not high on the priority list. What a shame!

The US mainstream media runs nightly segments now that makes it look as if every cop in the USA is a power hungry maniac.
