What an odd society we are living in compared to the old days that the big three TV news channels were actually required by congress to provide people with an hour of news a day as a PUBLIC SERVICE! The news media is hardly a public service these days, it is shock value click bait for profit with truth not high on the priority list. What a shame!
Thankfully on our local news here in Phoenix they showed and told the "whole story" of what this criminal did and showed the dash cam video leading up to his arrest/hood polishing.
He's damn lucky he wasn't shot dead given how he'd been acting and the crimes he committed prior to being bumped by the PD unit.

Good job officer! Nobody seriously hurt, car lightly damaged and everyone gets to go home, including the whacko (although his home will be a cell).

Doesn't matter. By tomorrow this story will have been long forgotten.
This was not a mundane traffic stop.

Their job is not to take undue risk when dealing with a suspect, especially when they are firing a gun.

I'd have put the car in reverse and backed over him too.

I remember watching the North Hollywood Bank Of America robbery with the two armored gunmen. Because LAPD stopped and set up a perimeter you had the situation where out of range they sent 10 minutes in a shoot out while I am sitting their thinking why doesn't someone try to run them over. But the police had lost the initiative to the gunman and it is hard to get back up and attack in such situations. This time we were lucky that the car was up to combat speed and the officer saw he had the advantage and ended the incident.

No matter what the guy did this just isn't right. A patrol car runs over a shooting suspect at better than 30mph (in my estimation). It is no better than shooting someone.

Deadly weapon against a deadly weapon, is what we saw here. As disturbing as this may be this is the cleanest....end to a possible horrendous situation.

The cops get out and start shooting back whole lot of bullet all over the place, hitting by standers.
This guy popping the gun off in the air with no regard to bystanders.
The cop made a quick decision and for all concerned it was the best. He neutralized the threat without any other lives lost.
As for the guy? He is an adult. He made choices. He made the wrong one when he threatened other innocent lives because he has "issues."

This is why some people are just not cop material, because sometimes you have to make snap decisions that most would freeze before making, due to the fact that the actions taken are sometimes harsh and beyond the pale. This cop thought out of the box.

When you pick up a gun and act irresponsibly, you give up all your rights. If the police hadn't stopped him there is no telling what he might have done next. Some innocent person or a police officer could have gotten killed.

Sure was an effective way to end this peacefully !!

I hesitated to put my two cents in but if a cop hits a suspect who was involved in a shooting and quite probably posed a threat to the police or others... it was a pretty efficient way to bring this incident to a close.

Default Is running over a suspect with a patrol car am accepted "procedure"?

It was a good stop.

The multi-felon perp survived and he was taken down w/o anyone else being injured or killed.
