The socially appropriate response to a gaffe is to look stricken and instantly apologize. If he had said at the end, "I am so used to the ribbing Joe and I do back and forth, I made a jackass joke at completely the wrong time. Joe, I'm so sorry about your son and offer my apologies to your whole family," I think most people would have gotten over it. Posting "Our prayers are with you" on Facebook is so phony.

Ted Cruz thought it was OK to insult a grieving man. Class!
This shouldn't surprise anyone.
Rafael Cruz is all about one thing: him.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him leave the senate before his term is out to do a "Sarah Palin" and chase the big bucks on the right wing speaking circuit and become a fulltime pundit. More money and not all the bother of this nagging "public service" that goes along with high elected office. Who knows - he may even end up with his own 30 min Fox News show.
If I were Cruz (and that would be fate worse than death), before I'd make fun of Joe Biden I'd take a tally of the people in this country who think he's a you know what, and then I'd shut my mouth.
But, in one way I love Ted Cruz. He's just one more nutty Republican tarnishing the party's brand. Keep up the good work, Ted!
Churchill was a lunatic. Off the top of my head I can't think of any secular figures the establishment promotes as being moral bellwethers who I admire.
If it weren't for Churchill you'd be speaking German and goose-stepping. On the other hand you hate the Jews so much that wouldn't bother you.
Ted Cruz is a jackass. He hurts the image of the GOP. He's like a huge pimple on a person's forehead that won't go away even after a dermatologist administers a cortisone injection.
He just likes to hear himself talk. His ego is astonishing.
I like Cruz for all the reasons you just mentioned.
The ability to interact with others online about politics is ruining the country. I'm a younger guy and I lean towards one side of the scale but it's stupid how intolerant some people are of others who don't agree with them. Posting threads on stupid message boards just to point out things someone can make fun of regarding a certain party is dumb and childish. I mean, have at it, but it won't change a single thing about the party you do or don't like at the end of the day. But that probably isn't the point. The point is probably to try and get as much agreement from people who agree with you and as much anger from people who don't as possible.
Not always?
There are people like myself who can vote for either party. I tend to be more persuaded by arguments on a board than by a candidates' always cheesy speeches or a news-writer with an agenda.
