And I know this is futile on the internet, but it doesn't behoove you to make assumptions. I've met many folks all around the world, and wouldn't put Southerners in the top 5 (and I grew up here) as far as cordiality and kindness are concerned.
But, I am probably lying, right? Because I have so much to gain from that.

It must be a kick in the backside to see people like Mr Winbush and others like him joining the Sons of the Confederacy simply because the NAACP wants to ban a representation of part of his families history, lol.
Just bought Amanda foreman's book"a world on fire".hopefully It will help me to understand the current furore about the flag amongst other things regarding the civil war.
You know what, I love it when folks put up a handful of confused black folks as it what they have to say represents the majority of African Americans. We had confused Negros during slavey and we had confused Colored folks during the Civil Rights era and we got confused Black folks now. So what?
As for hate, I hate racism in all its manifestations and I symbols of racism, I don't people, whether they are confused black folks or even racist white folks. Now I know that might be too nuanced for you but that's not my problem.
Here's where I'm conflicted, one would think given all the progress since the civil war, and even the rough times in the '50s and '60s I would think those that think the Confederate Flag represents all that, even to this day would look at that flag with a sense of pride.
Pride you ask? Why the heck would I look at that "racist" flag with pride??
Well, because y'all beat what you think it represents, rather soundly I might add.
Maybe it's the difference between remaining a victim or stepping up and proclaiming y'all were victorious against those that flew that flag as a sign of hatred towards y'all.
Isn't it totally up to each individual how a piece of cloth affects them?
The funny part about this whole debate is as a jew it's caused me to rethink my feelings on the Nazi flag and look at it as a reminder of what "can" happen if we don't constantly stay aware and a good feeling of what can happen when good people get totally PI$$ED off as it was roundly and soundly defeated.
Does any of this mean racism/antisemitism is completely dead and gone? Nope, both groups get reminders every day but I can point to that Nazi flag and say "kicked your ass once and will again if you dare try to repeat what you did under that flag".

To me the most dangerous people in America are the Politically Correct Nazis (PCN's) that demand everyone only say things they approve of. The question to ask about the Nazi Holocaust is why? Could it happen here or elsewhere? In my opinion, the constant attack by the PC society on white Christian/Conservative/Southerners creates a situation where they will fight back and may have been part of the creation of the acts by Roof. I know the PC Nazis will go ape over my politically incorrect and therefore, correct comments.
The Jews in the media and Hollywood have had a decades long and very successful assault on white Christians and Southerners...but I think they are up to their limit and we could either see a breakup in the country or another Civil War if it continues.
No they arent two different nations. The CSA never really was a nation in and of itself - if you want to argue that they were, it only lasted 4 to 5 years as a seperate nation, and was under seige the entire time. Its a part of American history. There is no Southern state that hasnt gone on to send its sons, and now daughters, to the serve in subsequent American wars, and fought under the US flag as well.
Thats like saying a black American cannot claim or hold any pride in African ancestory, as most have never been to Africa, and were not born in Africa, making the title 'African-American' a complete fallacy, as you cannot be someone from a place you have never seen or been except in pictures or your mind. As you say, you cannot be both - you MUST be either African or American, and solely because I and people who think like me say so.
I personally think that ideology is wrong and hateful, and ignorant.
I dont think I have a right to tell someone whose genetics obviously originated in Africa that they are not African and cannot claim any tie to that heritage or show any pride in it. Likewise, I dont think anyone has a right to tell any color of American that they should rewrite history, or erase history ever, and deny their forefathers who fought selflessly and bravely under the stars & bars.
Have you never seen those T-shrits that say, "Its a black thing, you wouldnt understand". Well, the Confederate flag is a Southern thing shared by all races of the South - and you obviously cannot and will not understand.
In Afganistan, when those ancient Buddist carvings in the side of a mountain were bombed because they did not represent a currently dominant religion, I thought that was a travesty, and a loss to the world.
More importantly, that action was a sign of weakness on the part of the practicers of the now dominant religion. It showed their fear of that previously ancient people that were no longer there.
I would have to ask, for people that want to try to erase history - what are you afraid of? What has made you so weak?
You dont have a right to erase any Americans heritage. For the most part, we are a nation of immigrants whether we immigrated as indentured servants, slave or free people in the 1600s or as someone from another nation just last year.
I'm not trying to hate on you or rewrite history. I do think people should move on, however, since actual confederates are all dead. I never said we should remove that page from US history books. I guess my intent is to try to understand your true motives. We're not stupid people. Are you hoping to revive the confederacy? You're right, I can't imagine picking up my state's flag and going to battle against the US over it.
Facts about the confederacy:
an illegitimate foreign nation
had its own constitution.
had an economy based on slavery
fought against the USA
has been dead for 150 years
Do you at least understand why some Americans might view confederates as rogues or place you in the same category as the taliban or al quaeda? The mission is all the same, attack the United States.
Are you for or against slavery? would you fight against the USA again if necessary?

Not when it's on a public building y'all because I would want to know if I had a reasonable expectation of fair treatment before I went into that building y'all
