Life alert necklace for the elderly. I would insist my parents get it once they get older. Unfortunately it's probably not cheap enough for everyone.
Simply checking in once a day still means they could die in an emergency. Obviously.
I paid $50 month for my mom's life alert. They are good if something happens and you're still aware enough to push the button. My mom had a major stroke and, probably, wasn't able to do that. She was home alone at the time.
I live alone with two cats. Nobody calls or comes to visit or 'checks on' me. I've often thought about what would happen if I had a heart attack or an aneurism here at home and died. Work wouldn't check on me. They'd just fire me as a "no call, no show". I have family in town but might as well not have.
Maybe they would leave some of them on the front door mat. That is what our cats always did when they would catch a mouse.
I would question if that is a behavior of cats in the wild. The prevailing wisdom is that our feline companions(or children) are giving us gifts or teaching is how to be adequate hunters when they leave prey for us to find. A study of this activity would have to control for the domesticity of housecats who may hunt instinctually while also being assured of a daily meal. If their feeder(human parent) dies and their body is the only source of sustenance, I think that cats would have survival on their mind rather than gratitude or education.
I think she overdosed on sleeping pills. I believe she was French and, if I remember correctly, there was controversy over whether it was a sucide attempt, given the nature of the transplant and how recipients require screening.
Anyway, her dog tried to wake her (they say), and her lower face was, essentially, chewed off.
LifeAlert needs to release a new commercial: "I've OD'd, and my dog is eating me!"
