It's possible that it was an advertisement logo from a Columbia coffee company and intolerance to it could be deemed as not being multi-cultural enough.
Shame on Thandie for not embracing other cultures.
I don't see how its reminiscent of slavery - the kid is wearing a British colonial invader's pith hat. That's got zero to do with American slavery.
Certainly insulting still - but from the standpoint of being patronizing and making a gimmick of colonial oppression, brutality, and forced labor in Africa itself.
She's an English actress with fairly strong African roots, (her mother is an African princess), from a former colonial British country, so that's probably where it's resonating for her.
As for her abilities, I've always been a huge fan of Thandie. She brings heart and soul to most of her roles and she's quite underrated.
This. ^^^ I'm surprised this made it through the corporate machine.
That was my thing. Big chain stores/restaurants tend to have very standardized displays.
And yeah, sorry, but that is a pretty offensive statue. Not to mention being a rather stupid marketing technique. "Hey! Let's buy some coffee that this display implies is harvested by underaged slaves and/or oppressed natives."
And if the coffee is Colombian, I'm not even sure if it makes sense in any form.
This is pretty funny. I don't care about the statue but a company that panders to progressive social justice types the way Starbucks does ought to have known better. Those people get offended at everything.
Yeah the fact that its at a Starbucks is what makes it so funny.
You lost respect for her becasue she cares about forced child labor and doesn't think it should be so proudly displayed in a Starbucks in London?
