Sometimes children do pick coffee beans alongside their parents like this boy in Nicaragua. Just like kids here pick berries in the summertime for pay. Maybe Thandie never had to work as a kid.

The statue itself might not be physically hurting anyone, but what it represents sure does.
The way to exercise such a "protest" is not to show up in such a place and buy their products ($), not complain about inanimate statues. I didn't read that she is boycotting or called for one of this establishment or chain as a whole which I find interesting if indeed the concern is slave children.

She is not. ..she is probably a loyal Starbucks customer still. While drinking her grande, non fat, chi latte she is fuming over a statue and tweeting about it.

Good point. Before she saw the statue I wonder if she ever gave a thought as to where the beans came from or who did the picking.

Except the US doesn't have an issue with child slaves picking berries like Colombia does with coffee beans.

Starbucks claims to have eithically sourced coffee. Obviously she knows the issue with child labor and coffee, otherwise she wouldn't have given a second thought to the statue.

The picture was included in the article (sometimes they take a while to load). I thought it was a beautiful, exquisite piece of art, and using it to display coffee beans was unique.

What's sad is that TPTB at Starbucks apparently had an epiphany after one complaint and the usual social media beefing.
