Hmmm...a non-story about Starbucks, a B-list actress and racism? Stinks of PR stunt.
If she really cared she could have contacted the corporate office at Starbucks and made a complaint. Then she could donate to an organization that supports children who are exploited. None of this requires going on Twitter and making sure your name gets in the news.
I agree. I find the statue extremely distasteful and would have told the manager so if I'd seen it in a place of business.
Everyone's perception is different. You see what you want to see but I venture to say that if you had a more worldly experience, you just might see this as a pretty average, and non-racist, image in many places around the globe.
What the article didn't say, would Thandie be boycotting Starbucks due to their racist views? Just a hunch, but I bet she is standing in line today, ordering her latte grande, lol
I'm not a minority, and I'm not even a "liberal," but I consider that statue tasteless and I can see how it would be offensive to some people.
But there's the rub.....I bet anything/everything can be tasteless to someone.
So perhaps the question becomes....who's the "offensive police", judge and jury, and all that, apparently deciding for everyone what's tasteful and what's not?

Scary slippery slope if you ask me.
So are you against people expressing their opinions?
That seems like a slippery slope more worthy of concern.

Opinions are great, please share with me what your favorite food or movie is. I am against the over abundance of I am offended about something mindset
It's a piece of artwork, a decoration in a store. Unless you are certain it's some message that Starbucks is sending that they endorse slave or child labor, order your chai tea and move the hell on....sheesh
Now we can get our fair-trade coffee from Starbucks without having to look at any images that might make us have to think about how many kids helped put our iphone or clothes together.
Tweet that.
Maybe do some research and then you will understand why that statue was an inappropriate way to advertise Colombian coffee.
