A child who could have been saved by proper medical care is still dead. He could have been taken to the hospital before he got so bad he could not breathe.

It’s always tragic when a child dies. His parents did what a lot of parents do when their kids are sick. They care for them at home. He didn’t even have a fever and he had days where he seemed fine followed by days of being sick in bed. They couldn’t have known that he would stop breathing.
The judge stated the following:
Quote:
“The Stephans did not know Ezekiel had meningitis but were alert to the possibility and monitoring the symptoms,” Clackson said before releasing a full written decision. “The meningitis Ezekiel had was viral and he did not die from meningitis but from a lack of oxygen.”
In his ruling, the judge said that there was no physical evidence that the toddler died of meningitis and that the Crown had therefore failed to prove its case.
There’s also no vaccine or treatment for viral meningitis.
The ambulance knew that they were not equipped with the proper equipment. This boy could have been saved if they were. Why does nobody seem to care about that? Because it’s more fun to demonize parents who don’t vaccinate or who use alternative medicine, in this case, nutrition and herbal remedies.

Sure wait until the child no longer breathes so the quilt trip can be placed on the EMS staff.
The verdict means that no matter how sick your child is, thete is no requirement for the parents to take them to a doctor, it's up to the ambulance to treat him when he is unable to even sit. The parents were told that he might have meningitis by a friend, looked it up in the Internet and then decided to do nothing useful for their sun. I think the first verdict was the correct one.
Not everyone living in rural areas should expect the ambulance coming out will have all the medical equipment and the necessary training for everything. They should have had the child examined during the time he was healthy enough to ride in a vehicle.

How again were they to know that their child was going to stop breathing? When your kids have been sick in bed with what you believed to be flu or croup, did you call an ambulance because there was a remote possibility that they might, at some point, stop breathing?
The appeals court disagrees with you that the first verdict was correct and the second judge disagrees with you that the parents were responsible for their child’s death.
The ambulance was not properly stocked with the proper equipment that could have saved this boy and it was something that had been known for quite some time prior and since they knew, they could have properly stocked it with the equipment that could have saved this boy? Why do they get off the hook? Why is the intense vitriol only reserved for the parents? The parents who were found not guilty.

I read this decision to say that parents who provide the very most minimal care and support for a sick child are going to be let off the hook when something bad happens. That makes it a bad decision.
No one expects parents to be perfect, but any reasonable parent would have taken their child to a doctor long before it came to this. A fever is a significant symptom and should have resulted in some intervention.
Hot peppers and garlic for a respiratory illness with a very young child? Maybe they should have done a sand painting or used leeches? I guess those are "alternative medical treatments" too, huh? The very term "treatment" implies there is some empirical evidence that it actually works. Unfortunately, for their child it did not.
Its easy to try to put the blame on someone else. However, ambulance services would never have been required in the first place if this child had gotten the care he needed.
Innocent or guilty it doesn't change the moral implications for this couple. They aren't qualified to parent a goldfish, let alone a child. They can live with the consequences of their inaction for the rest of their lives.

Mark, as a parent have you ever waited out an illness that seemed like a mild case of flu or a case of croup? The family has consistently stated that the boy did not have a fever during this illness at any point in time even though this has been falsely repeated in the media. Did you know that they’ve also consistently denied the repeated assertion by the media that they fed him garlic, horseradish, onion smoothies? Do you always head straight to the doctor when your kid is sick? Even after he seems to be getting better? Not everyone does. In fact, a lot of people don’t.
It’s tragic that the child lost his life and I’d imagine that no one is more upset then his parents who lost him. Yet they went through a trial, an appeal, and another trial only to be found, “not guilty”. They also have and continue to go through a trial by media and are demonized by people. All because they couldn’t predict that his health was going to take a turn for the worst and that he would stop breathing.
Considering the vitriol lobbed at this family, the false allegations, etc. it’s an instance where I’m glad to say, “I told you so”.
A child died and you’re gloating. Got it.
