They generally do a pretty good job at the "hard sciences"...it's the wishy washy ones like peace, literature and so forth that get hijacked by agendas.

It's kinda like the Olympics. 100 meter dash, luge, ski jump and so forth you don't have to worry about getting screwed over by judges like you do in stuff like boxing, ice dancing etc. although they have cleaned up some of that judge garbage more in recent years.

predictably, Zimmy seems to be not too impressed with the award as well...

Nobel Committee can't get a hold of Bob Dylan - CNN.com

...I'm not that far away from Dylan's farm located in the far reaches of the TC Metro where he reportedly spends each Thanksgiving. If the Nobels fly me over, I would be willing to accept the award on his behalf and run it over to his house on Thanksgiving for them.

I was reading about this too. Kind of funny. Come on Bob, just graciously accept the darn award.

Literature defined: " written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit." I'd have to say that in my opinion, Bob D certainly provided some written words of lasting merit. I think the basis for the many protests of his getting this award lies in the hatred for the period we call "the sixties" an era of recent American history that still evokes TV images of wild, rebellious, drug addled youth, dancing with total abandon..Dylan would be considered the devil incarnate for those imbued with a hatred for that period, and, denigrating him serves to denigrate the entire notion of the sixties as a time of valid social protest.

I've always thought this was a fascinating song. It still seems timely, too.

The Nobel as been a joke in most disciplines for a long time driven by ideology more than merit. Now you can add literature to the list.

I don't agree. He brought the concept of intelligent lyrics to popular music.
