Monalisa Perez, 19, was charged Wednesday in the shooting death of her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz III, 22. According to a criminal complaint, Perez said Ruiz wanted to make a prank YouTube video of her shooting at a book he was holding in front of his chest, AP reported.
i saw this on the news this morning - she used a 50 cal gun to shoot him at like a foot away. he had convinced her the book would stop the bullet. his mom had tried to stop him from doing this as well, not sure that the mom flat out told him he would die? she stated to the news that she told him it was a bad idea.
So stupid to think a book can stop a bullet! What a tragic (and stupid) way to die!
Just because it's dumb, doesn't make it any less sad (for the kids, anyway)

You'd think that if anybody understood the need for a backup form of protection, it would've been these two.
I really don't like to tag something for a Darwin Award but I saw this and was shocked.
We need to do a better job of teaching the scientific method in schools. I wish these kids would have tested tgier hypothesis by shooting the book first and seeing what happened with the bullet.
Needless to say many of today's students are dumb down to the point of not having an ounce of common sense. They live in a fantasy world of social media and PC brainwashing.
Now if the person were religious nut thinking a bible or Koran would save them, maybe you could say they were brainwashed by religious zealotry. However today, many kids coming out of school know more about entertainment stars than anything else.
I wonder where these geniuses got a 50 cal to begin with, as it is not a cheap gun. Additionally they must have witnessed some movies that showed the devastating power of such a weapon. Not that I'd trust a .22 at close range with a mere book, but a 50 cal insured this guys kooky idea would result in his death. The exit wound was probably a real eyeopener if this story is even accurate.
Why not use a .22, a thicker book, and do a test run to see if the book actually stops the bullet? Oh, because that would require foresight, planning and common sense. Which if they had any, they wouldn't be trying to become YouTube stars.
How is someone this dumb? Does someone tell them to breathe?
