The law is pretty clear here. However, I'm strangely inclined to agree that it's time citizens start fighting back. Maybe I'll look into moving to Texas.

Too bad we can't do this without getting in trouble for doing so.

Disagree completely with this. In some countries they cut off the hands of thieves. Are all of the people that made those decisions insane? Are these entire countries insane? I seriously doubt this.
This is America, not one of those countries.

So American's do like Sharia Law

Go. Figure.

Cleaning up after identity theft is a lifetime of misery, headaches, sleepless nights and a world of pain.
If that was what ran through her mind, I don't blame her and certainly would not convict her.

Wait wait wait. Isn't this victim-blaming? Like how you can't tell a woman she shouldn't walk alone at night in a bad neighborhood?

For everyone trying to defend the criminal, the mugger, let us all remember the parable of Spider-Man's origin. He let a mugger get away with a "petty" crime, that of armed robbery. This criminal's next illegal act is to kill Spider-Man's Uncle Ben. This is fiction of course, but when we let criminals get away, we are basically declaring that we don't care about their next victim.

It's funny how that 'ol mantra "if it just saves one life" only applies to taking firearms from law-abiding citizens, but not to removing scum from our population.

Right....no matter how many innocent people they injure or kill in their yahoo-I'm-the-Lone-Ranger act.

Best comment of the entire thread. She's damn lucky the guy she ran over didn't die cause things would be a lot worse for her legally had that happened. As it is now, she'll probably luck out and get some sympathy votes from the jury, if it gets that far, since she's pregnant and people are biased. Hopefully the purse thief has some prior criminal history so they can lock him up for a good amount of time. Otherwise, he might get off easy too. This vaguely reminds me of the Walter Scott incident. Many differences of course, but both incidents happened in a Carolina state, both involved the fleeing suspect being struck from behind with a deadly weapon and both were somehow caught on video by bystanders as they quickly unfolded.

No necessity to get all exotic about it.

Just go the Jews & Christians' Book of Leviticus. Lots of killing and mayhem there in the name of God's will and justice, no need to need to import anything.

There is such a thing as justifiable force and then there is deadly force.
While we can understand her immediate rage inspired reaction and have little or no sympathy for the thief, she cannot be congratulated for her lack of control and good sense.
