I'll try again---no I didn't disregard what you said... in a post above you stated that a child killer will be seen as weak by all the inmates there who have only had the strength/capacity to hurt an adult----when the truth is there are many inmates who've committed horrible crimes against children in the PAST who are there CURRENTLY for a different charge such as a crime against an adult
John Doe in currently on whatever block for drug charge. But...in the past he himself committed a horrible crime against a child and either didn't get busted for it, or it was a prior that he is not currently in for currently.
But I wasn't talking about other crimes people have committed. Let me try again.
In-prison crime happens for a reason. There are several reasons why a criminal will assault another criminal. Moral justice is the least likely scenario. Prisoners are often pawns in a very different social structure than we're used to. Those pawns can be used to change the punishment end of things.
As you say, someone doing time for another crime may also have committed other crimes that were never charged to the individual, but illegal distribution and robbery are skills that work better in groups and have value to others. Assaulting children doesn't necessarily require anyone else and theres no value in it. With no built in network that's going to value these people, if you want to make an example of someone...they're the perfect target.
My senior year of college I interned for the SC Department of Corrections for almost a year. The inmates certainly do have their own code of ethics and children and women are off limits.
