no known health issues.

The first woman had been treated for pericarditis 15 years ago and was cleared medically afterward. The couple had meds for hypertension in their room. Untreated hypertension can lead to heart disease, but hypertension itself is not heart disease.

True but in their case the pulmonary edema, seems that it was triggered by a poisonous gas, but those rooms do not have heating systems or stoves. A defective swimming pool can cause it, pesticides, or some kind of chemical treatment to the bedings or mattress.

Another common cause is aspiration of water from the sea or swimming pools. but the likelihood that BOTH of them got at the same time is almost impossible.

it could be tainted alcohol too, sometimes they spray warehouses to keep insects away and if the person dosent know what he is doing can taint the food.

This could be true too. In the middle of the night, our friends moved into our unit in Cancun. The outside of their room had been heavily sprayed earlier.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is pretty easy to distinguish. I think pesticides are more likely.

Yes, it is. I think the DR authorities are withholding information for fear of harming the tourist trade.
