Maybe the transportation to a court hearing should have been more secure. Alot more secure.
Well, yeah. Tht's kinda the point. Knowing what she was about to do and being in a position of authority, she arranged it so it was only her in charge of escorting him to what we now know was bogus reason.

She's not getting off that easy. They have enough evidence of what she did proceeding the escape. And there's no reason for him to hold her hostage. If she is no longer useful to him, she's dead.
When we heard the alerts regarding the incident my DH noted that she was probably involved with the inmate.
DH was an Army corrections officer for 20 years with 3 more years a military policeman and knows how common it was for Cadre to get "too close to inmates".
I hope that no one gets hurt or killed.
She is dead woman walking. She sold her house that was supposedly worth 300 grand for $80,000? He could be hanging with his thug gangster buddies. In which case she's been gang raped, kept around for amusement for a little while, then slowly painfully executed.
Command and control at this department and jail facility leave a lot to be desired. "Hey, captain, I'm taking this multiple-felon 6' 9" 275 extremely dangerous gang banger out to a fake appointment!"
"OK, Vicky! Don't bother with any paperwork an' stuff! We're on the honor system here! Y'all have a nice day, now, ya' heah?"
Take off with a thug like this. What could possibly go wrong? Other than everything.

I don't think the amount is accurate. She sold it for less than it was worth, but $80,000 is what she walked away with, not the sale price. There was probably still a mortgage.

The home sold for $95,500. Where does it say that she "walked away" with 80K?

I don't know, I just know what I hear on the boob toob. IF the place was worth 300 G and she cleared 80 and she's been at the Sheriff's Department for 25 years, sounds like she wasn't that far into the mortgage. Maybe her financial planning is on a plane with her romantic and tactical planning.
At any rate, God help her. She'll be lucky if the Marshals catch this pair, otherwise they'll find her rotting body out in the woods somewhere.
They keep showing the inmate's old ID photo. Why? He doesn't look anything like that anymore. He shaved his face, head and beard and put on 50 lbs.
If she were smart, she'd don a fake beard and moustache before going out in public.
